I did this last night. I wanted to be different, and anyone can have LED bulbs, so how about a LED ribbon? I like the finished product, although the hardest part was trying to drill the holes evenly. No cuts to the factory harness, I used spade terminals and filled the OE plugs with dielectric grease (water resistant) I epoxied the diodes into place & let dry overnight. Next time (yeah, right) I'd leave longer wires. Taking the tail off is more difficult now, I'll probably switch to a better connector later. |

All done in my garage this morning. It's cool to walk by the bike because each LED sort of 'blinks' as you walk through it's focused angle. Yes, that is a MADD ribbon on my licence plate. Don't drink & ride. |
TOP: The LED's as I soldered them together. I originally used silicone to put them in place, but it wouldn't dry being so thick. This is half way though, the heat-shrink tubing isn't done yet. SIDE: Everything is wired up and tested. I mixed up some 2 part epoxy (12 hour stuff accidentally!) and poured it on. The holes for the LEDs were a tight fit, so I had no leakage problems. I also let the epoxy set up for an hour before pouring it on the tail. BELOW: The end result, I love it. A cool ribbon of LEDs mark the rear of my SVS. You can see what I mean by each LED 'blinks' - they have a focused angle that if you look at the LED it appears REALLY bright, catching your attention. |
