We are a small museum situated in the centre of Granity, operating solely on public donations and with the help of grants from local Pub Charity, Buller Mining Districts Community Centre, and the Granity Community Fund Raising Centre.

The Museum consists of two buildings situated along side each other.

The largest of the buildings houses the Historical Coke Ovens which were operating from approximately 1908. The purpose of the Coke Ovens was to produce coke solely for the domestic market. There were no by-products from these ovens such as gas or tar.

As well as the Coke Ovens we display and collect items relating to the old mining era of Millerton and Stockton, also things that were used in days gone bye.

We also have on display old coal and gold mining relics such as two electric underground trains and bins.
Also the original Post Office wagon in which all the mail, wages, groceries, meat and household effects were transported up the Millerton Incline to the Plateau townships of Millerton and Stockton, this was the only means of access as there was no road.

The other building is to house mainly old photograph's, old record books for public reading and a display of household contents of the 1920/30 era.
The photograph and record books are of the Northern Buller District dating back to the turn of the century.

We are sure that you will find something of interest to you in our collection.
