MEMBERSHIP
When you join the NSW Cavy Club, you automatically become a member of it's sub brances - the Northsiders, the Southern Regional Branch, the Hunter Valley and Central Coast. Another Club also in NSW is the Northern Rivers, however this club does not follow the same schedule, and membership is not coverered in NSW Club membership costs.
What are the advantages of becoming a member? Being a member entitles you to exhibit in the breed classes, junior exhibitor classes, novice classes and pet classes. (Northsiders Branch no longer has pet classes for non-members). Every member of the club receives a CAVY CAPERS magazine (editor Jo Livingston) which comes out 10 times a year. This publication lists the show schedule with venues and judges listed as well as all the show results from the recent shows. The Cavy Capers also has various information of cavy care - health care with a "Vets corner" plus tips and ideas on exhibiting - washing, grooming, what to look for when choosing a cavy. There are also member's profiles called "studs in focus", where each issue of the cavy capers does an article on a particular breeder / exhibitor. When you are in your first year of membership you are able to enter the NOVICE class. Your cavy does not need to be of a show standard to enter this class. This is aimed at judging the cavy on general care and grooming, ie. clean coat, well groomed, nails cut short. The judge will explain while he/she judges, to help give you a better understanding on exhibiting. Juniors (those under 18yrs) can also enter the "Junior Exhibitor" class. This is a seperate show, judged to the breed standard, just for junior members - awards given. How long does membership last? Membership is renewed annually - due in August/September and this lasts for one year. For more information on becoming a member, visit the NSW Cavy Club Website
