She sat there, looking into the star filled sky. She wished she could again go out there, into the depths of space. They seemed so inviting to her, it was so tempting just to find or build a ship that would carry her away from this wretched planet. To most, the starts were nothing but constellations, but to her, they had different meaning, almost to the point of a relationship. Then, a head of purple hair clouded her vision of the beautiful sparkles in the sky. She gave him a momentary glare before turning the other way.
Looking at the stars again, ne? he said, his voice soft, almost as if speaking to a child. She looked at him, a soft smile on her breathtaking features. The soft onyx hair of hers flowed softly in the warm breeze, her dark azure eyes dancing by the starlight. Little dimples showed in her smile.
Yeah, just remembering our journey into the other side of the universe, she announced sadly.
Why the mournful tone? I thought those were good memories, he said.
Just wishing I could go back again, see the other planets again and this time, never come back. I think that would be great for me. To get away for good, she said. Her eyes reflected the need to leave the earth. He was determined to help her. Maybe he could go with her, that did sound like a good idea, by the way. He smiled, looking at her.
That does sound like a good idea, but I think I would at least visit once more, he commented emotionlessly. She laughed.
No, that would temp me to stay. I would rather never come back, she said sadly, I would miss everyone though. But that is why we have technology.
I see, but wouldnt you get homesick? I would, I was born on this planet, he said, trying to see if it was what she really wanted, or if it was just another faze.
I know, but this planet holds no potential for any of us. It might even weaken us, she said. Sighing, he gave in. She was determined to go. Well, at least he could help her. He also knew her birthday was in a month, a perfect present.
Well, if you go, I wish you luck wherever you go, he told her before standing up and walking away. She went back to her stargazing.
He was working in the lab, getting the machine ready for Pan. She would love his present, he hoped. He would get her a smaller one, then when no one was around, he would give her the special one that had taken him so long to work on. He was wiring the giant ship when his mother walked in. She stepped back at the massive thing in front of her, eyes wide.
When did you do anything like this? she pondered out loud, making her son jump. He gave her a look. She smiled sweetly.
Its just a project I have been working on for a few days. You like it? he babbled out quickly. His mother didnt buy it. She gave him a look and he stopped immediately after he saw it.
Tell the press that, not me. I know you are lying. Why did you build this? she quizzed.
Now is not the time, sorry. I am busy with it, he said curtly. Getting annoyed, she went over to her son and grabbed his ear. He wailed in shock and pain.
I am sorry too, but I would like the truth right now, she demanded. He finally gave in to her.
I am building it for Pan for her birthday. She told me she would like to visit space again, so I was hoping to gave her a more genuine birthday present than the usual stuff I get her, he explained. She gave him an evil grin.
Is there any particular reason you are giving her this? he looked at her with a guilty look on his face. He quickly hid it and told he just wanted it to be special, since it was the first time he actually knew what she wanted. She smacked his arm with the look in her eyes telling him not to give her any rubbish.
Fine, fine I like as more than a friend, you happy now? he complained.
Yes, quite. I just had to know. Thank you for being truthful, she sarcastically said. She walked out laughing. He shrugged and went back to work, he was almost done.
It was one week until her birthday, and she wasnt dying for it to land on that date. She never really had, it was just another year older that she was. They always had to make a big deal out of it, another reason for her wanting to go. She wouldnt have to deal with that. She would be happy.
It was the night of the party, and Trunks had the ship capsulized in his pocket. For everyone else to see, he had bought her a gold necklace with sapphires around it. He hoped she would like that too. He called everyone downstairs so they could go. He couldnt wait.
They arrived to see everyone had made it before them. All the Sons were there, as well as Krillins family and a few of Pans good friends. She was with a friend of hers, some blonde girl with long hair. Pan noticed that the Briefs were there and she waved to them all. He saw his younger sister walk briskly over and start chatting with the two. He saw she was wearing makeup, with a bikini top. Suddenly his thoughts were shaken out of him by a voice.
Time for cake! bellowed Chichi. He walked over as they all sang the corny little song they always sang. She blew out the 25 candles. They served the cake, and she opened her presents. She thanked everyone for the gifts and they began to leave. Marron was the last to go before Trunks. She hugged both of them, wished Pan a happy birthday and headed out the door.
Thanks for coming, she muttered. He smiled and nodded.
I have another present for you. I wanted to wait until everyone was gone before I showed it to you, he said happily. She smiled and they went outside. He pulled the capsule out and threw it out on the grass. There was a small boom and the magnificent ship appeared. She gasped.
I remembered what you told me about wanting to go back to space, so I built this for you, it is easy to operate, so you can figure it out yourself. All you have to do is put clothing in there. Theres food already stocked inside. I just hope its good enough, he told her with a happy tone in his voice. She put the ship in the capsule and held it to her sequined chest, and a small tear came out of her eye.
Thank you so much Trunks. You couldnt have given me anything better. Again, thank you so much, she sobbed happily. Without much warning, she came and hugged him, which he joyously hugged back.
I have one favor to ask you before you go, Trunks said and she put her head up and listened, I would like you to come and visit again, even if you only visit me, please.
You know I would, she whispered, even if it is only you. Besides, I dont think you would try to convince me to stay, right? He nodded, confirming her thoughts. She was happy he was letting her go. I am going to get my clothes now, just a minute, she said, rushing to her apartment door. She grabbed all of her clothing and stuffed it in some capsules, and ran outside.
I am trusting you not to say anything to anyone, she whispered to him. She took the capsule of the ship, opened it again and grabbed her case full of capsules and loaded them into the ship. He walked on with her and helped her get everything settled in. She thanked him with a peck on the cheek, which made him blush heavily. For some reason, she didnt see him, which made him very thankful.
He stepped out along with her. He had to ask her the question he was wanting to. He tapped her lightly on the shoulder, making her turn around.
I would like to know if I could come with you, he asked her politely. She looked at him with wide eyes.
I dont think that is a good idea, just because if we both left, that would give my family bad suspicions about us and I think we are just friends, right? she explained.
Just friends, that was all. His heart sank and shattered. He nodded giving her a smile. He was mangled and twisted inside, but he could always pull off that wondrous smile, making her feel like he agreed. So, she climbed in her ship all alone and waved at him. The next thing he remembered was her taking off to her adventurous new life. He only wished he could be with her.
The End
