What happens with the rest of the world doesn't matter. I've got my own problems to deal with. The news is a big, corporate-run, useless piece of crap, so why should I watch it? My local paper isn't worth anything, and we don't have an independent paper. I don't have time. There's too much violence and death on the news and it's starting to depress me. I just can't take it anymore, so I'm boycotting the news. Who cares? I hear this every day. People don't know what's going on beyond "we're at war," and they don't care. They don't care so much that the people who fund news sources often don't report the "little" things, thereby cutting back my sources of information. People really don't care. After all, they've got school to worry about. They've got their job to worry about. They have to worry about what guy likes them, and how they should do their hair tomorrow. Of course, there are people who are starving and sick and really do have their own problems to deal with. It wouldn't surprise me, however, if these people were to be more informed than those with "real world" problems. Apparently, people would rather be uninformed, letting the world go by and do whatever the heck it wants without check or balance. It's all about feeling "good" or "comfortable." The idea of millions of children starving to death is unsettling, and best not thought about. The thought that men and women are losing their lives in bloody, senseless battle is disturbing, and could lead to unhealthy thoughts. Illnesses running rampant in other countries just don't apply here. So what if another country is having financial problems - so are we. => |
