Forming Your Own Local Scheme: |
First you need to set up your team. Contact people who are already involved in health care:- e.g Nurses, the local surgery, trained first aiders at work, Ambulancemen. Contact people involved in emergency care:- e.g St John and Redcross volunteers, Firemen, Policemen. Speak to those in your area who are involved with community work:- e.g Guide/Scout leaders, teachers nursing home staff. Put up posters pleading for volunteers in:- The Post Office. The Local Pub. The Library. Local Shops. Parish notice boards. Put out feelers through parish magazines. Reach parents through the school. Contact parish, town, district council for support. Use the press. (they always like local stories) Ask them this: We've only got six minutes to get there. How local can you get? |
Fund Raising: |
The first thing you need to do now your team is together is start fund raising. The cost of setting up a local group is between 4 and 7 thousand pounds this is for the purchase of a Survivalink First Save defibrillator and other medical items, communications and operational overheads and initial training of volunteers. This can appear a daunting task but here are a few suggestions for contacts or things to do:- National businesses & organisations (especially local H.Q.'s) Local busnesses & factories. Local Government/Health & local councils. Fund raising charities (Lions, Roundtable, Helping Hands etc) Local charity or Foundation. Chamber of commerce and local shows. Traditional Fund raisers:- Fun run/marathon. 5-a-side competition. Raffle. Door to door. Collection box in a pub, shop,P.O. etc. Jumble sale. Sponsored headshave, legs waxed etc. Coffee morning. Bingo, beetle drive. Disco / dance. The list could go on. Be patient, be persistent, be positive; But most of all, have FUN. |
