| “Hey everyone! I’d like y’all to meet my niece, Colleen,” Melinda Bell called into Nsync’s dressing room. Lance looked up from the magazine he was reading, and immediately gazed into green eyes mirroring his own. On his feet in an instant, Lance extended his hand. “Hi, I’m Lance Bass. I’m from Mississippi; have you ever been there? You should go some...,” Lance stopped mid-sentence realizing that he was rambling. ‘You see a pretty face and you turn into an idiot’ Lance scolded himself. Colleen smiled and shook his hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Bass. I’ve never been to Mississippi, but I do plan on going some...,”Colleen stopped mid-sentence in an effort to mimic Lance, but he didn’t seem to notice. “I thought it was funny,” Colleen muttered under her breath. “I though it was funny too,” a smooth voice whispered in her ear. Quickly, Colleen whirled around to face JC Chasez. She blushed realizing that all the members of Nsync had been behind her the whole time. Timidly stretching out her hand to JC, Colleen introduced herself. “So you’re related to the chicken, huh? I would have guessed it from the chicken legs,” Justin teased. “She has great legs,” JC and Lance defended simultaneously. Both blushed bright red and stared at the floor in an effort to take the attention away from themselves. Joey shot them odd looks before returning his attention to Colleen. “So Colleen, tell us about yourself. How old are you, what are your hobbies, and what do you think of older Italian men?” Trying hard not to laugh, Colleen answered, “Well, I’m 18. I don’t have any hobbies, and as for older Italian men...I’m afraid that I don’t like spaghetti, so it’ll never work out.” Joey grabbed Colleen’s hand and brought it to his lips, “Doesn’t mean we can’t try.” Not wanting to respond to Joey’s flirting, Colleen turned to face the oldest member of the group. “Hi, you’re Chris right?” The older man simply nodded and exited the room. The other guys exchanged bewildered glances as Colleen left to follow Chris. “I think I’m in love,” Lance admitted in all seriousness. “You don’t even know her; you can’t love her,” JC said trying to convince Lance. “Well I guess I’ll just have to get to know her,” Lance said in a tone that assured that he meant what he said. >1 week later< Lance stuck to his word and got to know Colleen better. With every passing day, Lance believed he loved her more. “You don’t love her. She’s not your type,” JC would often responded to Lance’s declarations of love. Tomorrow Colleen was going back home, so Lance decided it was time to make his move. After searching up and down for Colleen with no luck, Lance approached Joey. “Hey Joey, do you know where Colleen is?” Joey though about it for a moment and responded, “ I think she’s talking to JC in the dressing room.” On his way to the dressing room, Lance practiced everything he would tell Colleen. “You see Colleen, I knew I loved you whe...” Lance stopped when he heard arguing coming from the dressing room. “JC, I’m very flattered, but I only think of you as a friend. Please understand,” he heard Colleen say, the frustration in her voice obvious. “Just give me a chance. I knew I loved you when I first met you.” JC begged. Lance had heard enough, he bounded into the room, a frown creasing his brow. “So that’s why you tried so hard to convince me that I didn’t love her,” Lance said replacing his frown with a giant smile as he turned to face Colleen, “You see Colleen, I knew I loved you when I first met you.” Colleen threw her hands up in frustration. “ Not two of you! I’m flattered guys, but I have a boyfriend,” she yelled as Chris walked into the dressing room. "Hey guys, what's going on?" he asked looking from JC to Lance. “Nothing really, JC and I have declared our love for Colleen, and now she tells us she has some loser boyfriend,” Lance supplied, bitterly. JC nodded his head in agreement. “I’m not a loser,” Chris defended before realizing what he was saying. His hand flew to his mouth, but it was too late. “You?” Chris walked over to Colleen and took her hand in his. “Yes, me. We've been dating since the first day. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have dinner reservations.” After Chris and Colleen had left the room, JC and Lance sat on the sofa remembering how strange the two had been acting this last week. “That was unexpected,” JC finally said. Lance nodded his agreement. After a few moments of nursing his broken heart, Lance was trying to remember if Justin and the new assistant, Carrie, were spending a lot of time together. He would be ready for the unexpected next time. |
