| Chapter Three |
| '...He was visiting, on his Daddy's farm..." It had been a couple weeks sense little Benjamin Luke was born, Justin and Shaye had spent most of those two weeks, together. "C'mon! Ya can't look that bad!" Shaye laughed, waiting for Justin to come out of the bathroom. "I look ridicules!" "Ya have to wear 'em!" "Why?!" "It keeps ya from, I dunno, chicken poop and scratches and everythin' else," "Ya can't laugh!" Justin said unlocking the bathroom door. "Okay, I won't laugh," Shaye giggled. "YOUR LAUGHING!" "No I'm not, I haven't even seen ya yet!" "Fine, I'm comin'," Justin walked out in a pair of overalls and rubber boots. "Now see, is that so bad?" "Do you know when the last time I wore overalls was?" "When?" Shaye smiled handing him a feed pail. "When I was two, okay," "Ya don't look half bad," "Really?" Justin smiled, "Really," Shaye giggled. "Okay then, so, what are we doing?" "Feedin' the cows, horses, pigs and chickens, gatherin' eggs and catchin' a chicken for supper," "Ya have GOT to be kidding me?" "Nope, it's easy, where do ya wanna start?" "I don't care," "Good, to the barn," Shaye smiled as she walked to the barn. Justin in step behind her, "Hey guys, ya'll hungrey?" Shaye smiled approaching the horses. "Oh wow," "What?" Shaye asked petting one of the horses. "They're beautiful," "Yeah, these are my Daddy's pride and joy. Prize-winnin' horses, every last one," She smiled. "Prize winning?" "Yeah, the fair," "Oh! Okay," "Okay, lemme introduce you to everyone," "Okay, cool," "This, is Kasie, he's the oldest of the horses, this is Patsy, Blacky, Brownie, and Blondie, she's havin' a colt soon," "Wow, well, congrats Blondie," Justin smiled. "She gets special feed," Justin watched Shaye closely as she talked and fed each horse. "Okay, that's done, now YOU get to feed the cows," "Ugh, cows stink," "You're such a titty baby!" "Okay, okay, what do I do," "Just take this and pour into the big pail out there," "That's easy enough," "Than ya gotta grab that HUGE hose and fill up their water barrel," "Your kiddin'?" "Look at me, do I look like I'm kiddin'?" "Great," Justin walked in the pasture and did as he was told, once the cows started walking to the barrel, Justin bailed, Shaye couldn't help but laugh. "You gotta be out of your mind! You do this every day?!" "Every day, once ya do it for a few years, ya kinda get used to it," "Now what?" "The pigs," "Yeah! That's where YOU come in! I fed the cows and stepped in God knows how much, ya know," "Cow patties?" Shaye busted out laughing. "Right," "It's not that bad," She smiled, as she poured a bunch of God knows what in the pigs pen, "Okay, now ya gotta say it," "Say what?" "Ya know," "No way! Why don't you?" "I do it EVERY day," "Okay, but this is the only time," "Okay," Shaye stood back and watched him, hiding the grin on her face, Justin cleared his throat, "SSSUUUIIIEEE!!!" "Now ya gotta scoot back," "Why?" The pigs came running, mud and water flew, hitting Justin in the face and all over his overalls, "That's why," Shaye laughed. "Very cute," Justin said wiping his face off on his old shirt. "Okay, now we feed the chickens, and gather the eggs, this is the trickiest thing," "What do I do?" "Well ya gotta feed 'em, and hurry and grab the eggs, they get mad if they see you messin' with their eggs," "Liar, I saw on TV once, you can take the eggs out from under them," "Ya welcome to try," "I think I will," "Okay, go for it," Shaye shrugged, he was about to get himself in a heap of trouble. Shaye sighed and fed the chickens, she waited to hear him yell, than, he did, "OW! YOU STUPID BIRD! LET GO OF MY FINGER! OUCH!!" "What did ya do?" "Tried to gather eggs," "I told ya, they don't like ya messin' with their eggs," "I know that now," "C'mon, we're done out here, I'll doctor that for you," "Okay," They walked inside, Isabella was nursing Benjamin in a rocking chair in the living room, watching a soap opera. "Momma, where is the first aid kit?" "Where it always is," "Okay," "What happened to you?" Isabella asked walking to the kitchen, small Benjamin asleep in his crib. "I tried to be smart," "Looks like chicken peaks, did you grab for eggs while they were still under their rears?" "Yeah, that obvious, huh?" Isabella laughed, "Shaye used to do it ALL the time, then she learned," "Here it is, c'men here, and I'll doctor it," Justin walked to the bathroom. "Your Mom is doing pretty good for someone who just had a baby," Justin smiled, as he sat down on the toilet seat. "Yeah, she's stubborn, she's supposed to stay off her feet for six weeks," "I'm sure she gets bored," "Yeah, but I'd rather her be okay," "She's fine," "There, your set," "Thanks..." Justin was starting to fall HARD for her... |
