Polybians in the Gap |

1. Opening... I roll as the defender and set up hills and woods to form a gap, just for the heck of it. We're both commanding Polybian Romans, with mine in the foreground (with Numidians pressed into service as Cv). We both form several ranks to pass through. |
September, 2002... Here's a recent battle I had with a young man who wishes to be known only as "Mr. G." He was horribly disfigured while attempting to shave his back hair and now lives a lonely existance as a night watchman at a chicken processing plant. Tragic... |

3. He sends his cavalry around my left. I match with my own. Both our generals will be fighting here, at even odds, so it's a risky venture. They push each other around for three turns, then his cav roll low and die. |
2. Low PIP dice force us to advance only our first ranks of foot. They enter into a fruitless shoving match. I bring up an element of skirmishers on the right, looking to gain an overlap and threatening to flank him. |
4. Endgame... I extend my infantry, gaining overlaps, and kill two blades. In the same bound his blades kill one of my own, but my cav wing kills his general element, winning me the battle. It ended 4-1, this being due more to good rolls than good generalship.. |
