Pros: Plastic is cheaper than metal, in 25mm (a metal army can easily cost $60, while a plastic army rarely runs more than $15). Plastic is bigger than metal, in 15mm. Plastic is more naturally proportioned (notice that the hoplite on the right looks like a human, while the gallic warrior on the left looks cartoonish). Plastic is more durable, as it bends. Finally, using plastic makes a wargamer a bit of a "maverick." Men will fear you. Women will flock to you. Dogs and small children will worship you...
Cons: Not many people use plastic (though this seems to be changing). Paint tends to chip off of it easily (but there are ways to prevent this). Some plastic figures don't carry as much detail as 25mm metal. Plastic armies are based as 25mm, but look silly fighting their bigger metal cousins. |
