| I believe as Dr. Northrup that by doing what is best for our children we reclaim our power as women. We also claim autonomy from the corporate interests which would have us believe that they can do better for our children than we can. Study after study has proven and good old common sense would agree that the nectar which natures provides would be far superior to anything commercially made. If you are pregnant and thinking of nursing access as much information as you can, attend Le Leche League meetings and remember that as glorious as it is breastfeeding does not always happen as smoothly as we would like. If your baby needs to learn how to latch on or if you find your breasts tender remember that these are normal aspects of the first few weeks be patient with yourself and with your baby. Soon you will find yourself and your child tuned to each other so that you can even tell that they are hungery simply by how your breasts feel. If like me you are lucky enough to have babies who suckle right away, show support and encouragement to those who are having a harder time. There will be those who ask why you would choose to breastfeed when it is so much easier to use bottles and formula. You could spend some time explaining how much easier it is to have babies food right there with you at all times in a pre sterilized package or you can simply say that you want to give your baby the best and that includes what they eat. |
