FLIGHT OF THE EAGLE

MAY 1808 NEUTRAL TURN

From Vienna:

"Noble German People! The pretentions of the French as some form of peace loving people are proved false by the fact that their forces currently occupy Poland, and have even gone so far as to penetrate into the wilds of Russia. It is obvious to all that the appetite of the Corsican Ogre can not be sated. Unless someone steps forward to stop him, he will soon dream of marching on far off Peking! We call on the noble and brave people of the German states, to throw off the oppression of the Corsican Adventurer! He has pillaged your lands, put his kin upon your thrones. Teach him now that his path is one that can only end with his head at the end of a pike. We, the people of Austria declare to the world that we will fight the Ogre now, and until the very last grenadier, the very last bit of gold. Consider the Empire of Austria to be in a state of war with France."

Austria declares war on France!

MAY 1808 FRENCH TURN

The Austrian declaration of war spurs Napoleon into a frenzy of activity. Before departing for Stuttgart, the Emperor dispatches orders to Murat's Armee du Rhine in Bavaria and Massena in Poland. The French armies take shape in a great semicircle from Bavaria through Saxony to Poland, menacing Austria from three sides.

MAY 1808 ALLIED TURN

The French concentration in Bavria and Saxony takes the Austrians by surprise. Charles is forced to withdraw the Armee von Donau down the Danube and leave Prague exposed. The Archduke links up with the Armee von Moravia constructing fortifications in the Vienna area.

Bagration leads the Russian army into Eastern Prussia but not before expelling the last French outpost on Russian soil at Brest Litovsk. Cossack patrols arrive at the gates of Warsaw, sparking a panic in the Polish capital.

The English consolidate in Portugal and receive reinforcements.
