OCTOBER 1807 FRENCH TURN

The Grande Armee halts on the Russian border, disperses and pushes only a few pickets over the Niemen. Napoleon quits the army and races back across Prussia. The first Polish troops with Prince Poniatowski at their head are reviewed in Warsaw under the eye of King Massena.



OCTOBER 1807 ALLIED TURN

The Russians halt their retreat at Minsk and construct a huge armed camp. The french garrisons and Grodno and Brest-Litovsk are left unmolested. The first snows fall.

On the peninusla, a daring amphibious operation led by Moore lands on the French coast and seizes Bayonne. Huge amounts of stores and supplies are seized as Soult, straddling the Spanish/Portuguese border, suddenly finds his communications and supply lines back to France cut.

Battle of Bayonne
Sir John Moore departs from Oporto with 10,000 men on Royal navy transports. One week later, the fotilla appears of the Frecnh coast at Bayonne. The local French commander withdraws the 5,000 man defenders within the town walls but the defenders are too few. With the help of naval bombardment, the city is battered into submission.
French casualties: 5,000. English casualties: 5,000.
