Year in Review: Season 12.0 |
The NWL Committee and Union passed the rule proposal named 'Unsigned Callups Second Chance' which would allow Callups which were not signed by their callup team to get a second chance with another team. Los Angeles, San Jose and Miami all changed their logos after all having new ones in 11.0. Oakland also changed their logo, and on top of that changed their team name to the Oakland Seals. April Mulberry who in 11.0 became the first female coach, signed a contract extention worth 12 million over four seasons starting in 13.0 and lasting to 16.0. Columbus Empire win the 12.0 Lottery Draft, to pick first overall in the Minor League Entry Draft over top percentage club Denver Wolverines. Boston Minutemen surprised many as they took their first PST title. Detroit was named 12.0 Kings Cup Championships host. New Orleans retire the number 18 in honor of (R) Eric Brown, franchise first and only the second in league history. The only other was by Houston in 8.0 for Mark Reese. Denver, took their first two games of the 12.0 season, after not winning since the 9.0 season. This was after two straight 0-15 seasons. Richard Derry signs with the Seattle Pilots for 400K, for one season of the SFAB, becoming the first player to sign with a team with the new Second Chance Callup rule was developed before the 12.0 season. Juan O, manager of the Phoenix Phantom for 6 1/2 seasons, steps down as manager due to inactivity. He hopes to return to the league soon, maybe with a expansion club in Baltimore. New detailed injury format is passed by the league, for the start of the 13.0 season. Rule passed that a manager owning two teams, when matched up during season or playoffs, the Commissioner must send in the secnd teams lineup. If the Commissioner has two, the NWL Committee sends lineups. All eight of the Second Chance Callups signed with a team for the 12.0 season, in the first season with the Second Chance Callup rule in effect. Los Angeles finished 0-15, the worst finish in franchise history. Only the third team in league history to go 0-15, Denver did it twice in Season 10.0 and Season 11.0 San Jose becomes the first time to win back-to-back Royal Cups. Season 11.0 and Season 12.0. New Orleans win the 12.0 Kings Cup, first time in franchise history. Tenth different team to win a Kings Cup in the twelve seasons of the league. Mark Reese becomes the first and only player inducted into the NWL Hall-of-Fame in the first year of inductions. Nick Curry missed being inducted by two votes. |
