Who is FLYlady?

The FLYlady is a woman named Marla Cilley.  She developed a system for organizing and cleaning the home, based on and endorsed by the originators of a similar system -- Pam Young & Peggy Jones.

Why does she call it FLYing?  

The term started out as her nickname, but has evolved into an acronym which stands for "Finally Loving Yourself." 

What is FLYing all about?  

Pam Young & Peggy Jones first introduced the concept that those of us who get buried under our clutter and have difficulty managing the tasks of keeping our homes clean and organized are simply "Sidetracked Home Executives" -- SHEs for short.  We SHEs were not "Born Organizers" and get easily distracted -- winding up with homes that are messy and often downright embarrassing. It may not seem obvious to SHEs that living with CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) is draining to one's energy and spirit -- and will keep a SHE feeling guilty and disappointed in herself (or himself). FLYlady's methods of establishing routines "baby step by baby step" have enabled SHEs around the globe to emerge from the teetering piles of stuff and create a pleasant living environment for themselves and/or their families.  SHEs are discovering that following FLYLady's recommendations and guidelines is essentially a way to "Finally Loving Yourself." 

FLYing is a flexible system that can work for you.  It doesn't matter whether you are single, married, living together, in a roommate situation or dorm, make your home in a teensy apartment or a big house, have kids or not, work full-time, part-time, or are a stay-at-home parent.

City dwellers will likely have certain tasks or considerations that homeowners in suburban or rural areas do not (and visa versa), and New Yorkers always consider themselves rather special!  Therefore, this site can become a resource for the urbanite living in the Five Boroughs who needs some tips, pointers, and guidelines in using the FLYlady system of organization and "housekeeping" while coping with the hectic pace of New York City.
