Actually no, they freakin rock, quite a lot, in public places, but there is a little more to them than that. Here for no real reason other than the fact that i was bored, is all the interesting, pointless and often trivial facts about the strokes that i seem to have left off my website. If you're a big fan, you'll probably know all this, but if you're not, indulge in the detail and grit that strokes fans like myself can probably quote at random intervals during conversations. here we go: First gig... > the strokes played their first gig at Nick Valensi's older sister's 21st, in front of a room full of girls. It's kinda weird how that kind of sums up who still goes to their gigs: girls. Mainly coz they all wanna ride the band like a pony, but just like guys who go to the gigs for kick arse rock and roll, some girls do too go for that reason. and that indeed is the good and correct reason to go to a strokes gig. First proper gig... > they did their first proper gig on september 14th 1999, at the Spirall (a dingy little club in New York) in front of about 4 people (one of which Albert clams to be have been his grandmother. haha that crazy bitch...oh not his grandma! i meant Albert.) Anyway, Julian was so nervous, in the true spirit of rising rock stars, he puked he went on. huray! High school...didn't it just suck? > Fab and Nick went to Manhattan's Dwight School (private prep grammar-y type school) which they claim "sort of sucked", well indeed i mean it was private school, i know that feeling, geez....anyway, best friends Fab and Nick, and Julian, a bit older than them, didn't quite rightly fit in with the snobby rich kid groups, but were more so those music dudes, '"oh, those kids with the long hair"'. Julian left, i think, when he got that music school composition scholarship, then Nick left, and Fab was on his own. But it's ok, coz they're altogher now, rubbing it in the faces of snobby rich kid prep school dick heads who lead not the hedonistic rock-lifestyle that the strokes do lead. huray! Stroked by the rich and famous... > Famous (ish sometimes) people they're have met and who indeed love them: - Joe Strummer met Julian at a gig at the troubladour in LA and said he couldn't stop smiling the whole time. (Joe strummer said that about the strokes). Julian apparently just kept saying "you're fucking with my head, dude!", and kissed him on both cheeks like "a true euopean diplomat". - That dick head (oh did i say dick head? my bad) Courtney Love (nah courney's ok, shes just a dick head), had herself a bit of a crush on young Julian, (like every other female strokes fan) and, indeed wrote a song about him called "But Julian i'm a little older than you". She said Julian was a little quiet and weird, seemed kind of nervous around her...well DUH you're Courtney Love, of course he's freaked out, you're a nut! But actually, Julian said she was pretty normal "for someone like courtney love", he said she was giving him advice...or something. - Thom Yorke went to one of their shows and and according to media was very damn impressed. Which i imagine the boys would be pretty stoked about, seeings as Fab "really liked ok computer...a lot!". - At that same show, Kate Moss was there, but apparently she was talking to Adam Green of the Mouldy Peaches, coz according to Albert "shes knows we're all gay". - Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi likes the album, how "it teaches you about the band as it goes along", good point Ella and i agree, but i still don't like you or your stupid ass band. You sound like the Corrs. I'm sorry...i'm just not a Killing Heidi fan, they're ok, but, you know...no. - Pete Townsend of the Who is calling them his new favourite band. - Liam or Noel Gallagher, can't remember which one, but met the Strokes and wanted them to tour/support Oasis...now brmc (that latest hype sensation, but who indeed are good) are. But said Noel or Liam whichever one, was really cool. Stroking on the road... > The lucky people the strokes have toured with! - You am I, aussie band that do indeed fucking rock, a lot, in public places. - Guided by Voices, such a good band. If you don't know of them, good god check them out. - The Moldy Peaches, weirdo's who wear costumes (namely bunny rabbit and pixie), you gotta love a band like that. - Longwave...um...i dont anything about that band...but they're touring with the strokes currently. - Stereo Total, french/german duo, kinda synthy, doing the Euro circit with the lads. (thanks Alex for that info, thumbs up) - The hives? i'm really not sure about that though... - there have been more, obviously, but i can't remember any...if you can, slap me upside the head and email me. Stroked... > Bands they've been compared to... - the Velvet Underground (if you didn't know that then WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN?!?!) - Television, Wire, the Fall, Richard Hell, the Stooges, the Smiths, Blondie, Ramones, Pretty much any and every 70's New York Punk band... - the Cars - Oasis (the whole hype thing) > Bands that have been compared to them... - the White Stripes - the Hives - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (mainly the whole hype thing...tsk...hype...is there anything it won't do?) > Music that the Strokes do indeed like... - Bob Marley, the Velvet Underground, Guided by Voices, John Lennon, the Cars, the Doors, Pixies, the Cure, Radiohead, Guns and Roses (that might just be Fab), Bjork, Jane's Addiction (Nikolai is a big fan apparently), the Beach Boys (think i read that somewhere...actually you'd best ignore that), Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, the rolling stones (i think), plus way more, they like a lot of music...including ninja rap by vanila ice. well who doesn't? |
upon a hill is where we begin. they tell a story long time ago. stop to pretend. stop pretending it seems this game is simply never ending. |
