THE COMMISH
Volume 1
Number 4
I'm quite sure that I've got some new faces coming to read the Commish.  Let me give you a little background on what this is all about.  On this page I write about what's happening in the world of sports.  Mostly, I talk about hockey, but sometimes other sports jump in.  This is not to offend anyone (except those I talk about), but can be somewhat harsh.  In no way is this used for anything, but debate starting and in some cases laughing.  I used to write this piece quite often, but had run out of time.  Due to the popularity and a recent rash of requests I've decided to make a comeback.  I will try to write at least once a month, but will email those when I put a new Commish on the site.  If you would like to be emailed please click on the link to the left to email me to tell me you want to be on the list.  If not just check back periodically.                                                                                                          Thanks,

Hey everyone!!!  We're back with another edition of the Commish.  We'll call this the playoff hockey edition.  We'll talk about the usual.  Hockey, football, baseball and some other things as well.  So, let us get started.
Let's start with hockey shall we.  My favorite sport in my favorite time of the year.  PLAYOFF HOCKEY!!!  Round one is starting to wrap up.  Some general observations from round one.
1)  The Avs are for real.  As well as they should be.  A small part of me is rooting          for the Avs.  I think of them as the team to beat.  I would also like to see David
Aebischer win the cup (we'll get into this more in a second).  Also, would like to
see Paul Kariya win the cup (he's a pretty boy, good guy in the league who used
to get hit so much he spent three seasons eating carrots through a straw, well,
not really, but it felt like it.)

2)  Philadelphia still sucks.  Not Ranger type suckage, but can't stand them.  They
will lose before the Cup finals.  If they play Boston they will win, but Leafs or
     Sens will take them out.

3)  Maybe hockey does belong in the Music City.  As I was watching the Red Wings      defeat the Preds I couldn't help, but to get goose bumps.  The Nashville crowd
was going nuts in the final seconds of their team losing.  Obviously, cheering for       the great accomplishment that their team gave them this year.

4)  My all time favorite player (besides Peter Bondra) is Scott Stevens.  He was the
first player I ever started following and the sole reason I started loving the Caps.
I've always thought (especially in the 80's and early 90's) he was one of the most      under-rated defenseman ever.  Well, we've now seen what he means to the
Devils.  With him they get over 100 points.  Without him they go out in 5 games
     to Philly.

5)  Beware of the Sharks.

6)  Tampa Bay really isn't that good are they?  The Flames?  I'll root for Calgary,
but was it really fair to put the Isles against the Bolts.  Might as well had
Pittsburgh in the playoffs somewhere.  I'm sure they woulda put up a better
     fight.

Elsewhere in the world of hockey...
--  The Sabres made a hell of a run for the playoffs.  Falling just short of the
pathetic and lowly Islanders.  I actually feel pretty good about things there.
Hopefully, we'll keep everything we've got and add just a couple of pieces.

--  The Caps got the number one pick in the draft this year.  There first pick will be      Alexander Ovechkin.  This guy is good.  Speed and size, plus, the complete
package.  He is not someone who is strictly offense.  Say, like Ilya Kovalchuk.
He is someone to build a future around and that fits perfect with the Caps plans.

--   Speaking of the Caps plans.  What was that at the trade deadline?  Talk about
fiscal responsibility.  I believe, however, that they did the right thing (except
getting rid of Bondra).  They are now in position to make some good moves
should the new CBA (the NHL's/NHLPA's Collective Bullshit and Arrogance)
include a salary cap.  I hope that it does.  I think it's the best thing football ever
did and I feel sports can benefit from it (BASEBALL ANYONE).

--  No, there will not be a season next year.  Pricks!!!  Take away hockey from
    me.  Bring in the scrubs.

--  Todd Bertuzzi is innocent.  He didn't do anything that hasn't been done in
hockey for many years.  Just because the guy landed awkward on the ice and
broke his neck means the world is after Bertuzzi?  Listen, what he did wasn't
right.  He didn't intend for the guys neck to break.  He was trying to send a
message.  Just an unfortunate result of a bad decision.  His punishment is just,
but to ban him from hockey forever?   Whoever says that has some serious
issues.  For the rest of the season is proper punishment.

--  Finally, what is up with all the teams above 100 points this season?  If you look
as far back as the 2001-02 season there have normally been 3-4 teams in the
100 point range.  This year there was 10 100 point teams.  What's the deal with      that?
The NFL draft is coming up.  Eli Manning looks to be the #1 pick overall.  Is he another big time QB flop?  Maybe.  How about Ben Roethlisberger?  His stock is dropping because he played at a small school.  May I remind everyone that Steve McNair didn't even play I-A.  He played I-AA.  Ben can play.  Take the chance.  Maybe Buffalo will pick him up.
Joe Gibbs is back in the NFL.  What does this mean?  Redskins will win a Super Bowl very soon.  This guy can take crap and make into gold.  Plan on it.  Maybe not this coming season, but soon.
I'm still pissed about the Bills taking some guy as a coach.  Hey, I'm some guy.  Can I coach?  I can make sure they don't get into the playoffs too.

Baseball has finally started.  Yes, the lazy season/ dog days are finally upon us.  My Tigers are off to a hot start, but they'll lose a lot more games soon enough.  I'm just enjoying the fact that they are still ahead of the Yankees.  May the Yankees not even make the playoffs.  I continue to root for any team playing the Yankees.
The FBI and everyone else is involved in finding out about the use of steroids amongst baseball players.  So, here's the question.  Does Barry Bonds record count if they find out he's been on steriods?  Answer- COMMISH SAYS NO!!!!  Don't even put an asterik next to it.  It's blatant cheating.  If I took roids I could probably go out onto the field and hit balls like superman.  Don't even recognize it.  Smae goes for Mark McGwire's homeruns.  So, let's hope they don't find anything.
IN OTHER SPORTS---

1)  Congrats to Phil Mickelson for finally winning a big time golf tournament.  As I was watching the Masters and Phil walking down the 18th fairway on the final day.  I could swear I heard him trying to dislodge a hot dog from his throat.  However, I realized after his putt for the win that it was me imitating his usual style of play.  He didn't choke and deserved to finally get his win.

2)   Some more congrats to Freddy Adu of the DC United in Major League Soccer.  He scored his first pofessional goal today.  I've heard rumors he'll be playing in Rochester against the Rhinos this season.  So, what's the big deal with a soccer player scoring his first professional goal.  Nothing, except he's only 14 years old.  He's been touted as the Wayne Gretzky of soccer.  That's a big comparison, but he's young enough to accomplish that goal.
Speaking of choking.  I'm outta here to go watch the Boston Bruins lose to the Montreal Canadians.  HEHEHE.  Pretty funny.  Until next time.  We'll see ya.
Finally, I want to know what you would like comments on.  Any sport you want to talk about.  You want to know what the Commish thinks on something?  Well, just ask and we shall answer on the front sports page.  Please email your question to me by clicking here.
