Haleakala National Park |

We spent one very cold and very early morning coming to the top of Haleakala. We were a bit over 10,000 feet up. We left our hotel at 2:30 am to be at the summit for the sunrise and it was so very worth it. The stunning view of the world below was absolutely awesome. |

Standing above the clouds was a sight to behold, but standing so high does make you so cold. It was around 40 degrees with winds whipping by at around 30mph. That's not a half bad wind chill for the middle of summer in Maui. |

Below, is a really nice picture of the Big Island of Hawaii towering over the clouds. |

In the above picture not only do you get Julie and I above the clouds, but also the Big Island of Hawaii is above the clouds too. One part over my right shoulder and the other peak over Julies left. Below, shows the actual elevation. |

These crazy people are bikers and they are going down the mountain. They will descend 10,000 feet and finish up on the beach where they can jump in the water. The average speed is around 20 mph. However, we met some new friends there who did this and said they hit speeds of 30-35 mph. DOWN A MOUNTAIN!! To Kathy and Dallas you're braver than us. |
