| Athletics Return to Play Policy | ||||||||
| The return to play or return to sport policy is designed to ensure the safety of the injured athlete. It is a series of checks and balances designed to protect the athlete from further injury. | ||||||||
| Our policy states that: -If an athlete is injured he/she MUST see the school's certified athletic trainer. There are no exceptions. This goes for all in-season athletes despite whether they are injured at the school or off school grounds. -The parent of an athlete has the right to exclude their child from activity. The parent cannot, at any time, overrule the exclusion from activity requirement of a physician or the school's certified athletic trainer. -The treating physician has the right to exclude an athlete from returning to play (if the athlete is seen by a physician.) Neither the parent nor the school's certified athletic trainer may overrule this exclusion. If a question arises for return to play regarding the diagnosis of two different physicians then the diagnosis of the physician holding the higher specialty area within the specific injury will be granted higher authority. -The school's certified athletic trainer holds the ultimate right to exclude an athlete from returning to play. A parent or a physician cannot overrule the exclusion requirement of the school's certified athletic trainer. This does mean that if a player has a physicians note saying that they can return to play they may NOT do so without the permission of the school's certified athletic trainer. |
