| Poquoson's sports medicine takes on multiple tasks. First, is the obvious task of taking care of the student athletes. This is done through prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. We also administer emergency care for acute sports injuries. Second, is education to the coaches, athletes, and parents about the injuries that occur to athletes. Such questions like- heat or cold? What type of stretch should I do? What is my injury? and What does this mean? are common within the athletic training room. I try to provide as many answers as possible. Third, provide the opportunity for students who are interested in a medical profession to gain some experience within the field. Careers that fit best for our program are students looking to become nurses, doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, psychologists, and of course athletic trainers. Fourth, we work very closely with Dr. Michael Potter to provide consistent care for our athletes. Our goal is to get the athletes back to play as quickly and safely as possible. Dr. Potter is a great asset for achieving that goal. |
