Things To Do
Its has been three weeks since T-Rod has been shot.
His recovery is slow but his prognosis is very good. Recovery from a collapsed
lung takes some time. His mother and sister are with him every day. Andy has
been by frequently to fill him in on what's going on with the squad. Andy just
uses that as an excuse. He is more concerned with T-Rods well being. Capt. Martens
had been temporarily assigned command of the 15th. No one is very comfortable
with this arrangement. Not that he has been busting balls, he's still an
Internal Affairs guy. That alone can make any squad uncomfortable. Truth be
known, Andy is holding the squad together. All in all, Martens has been a stand
up guy these past few weeks. He knows Andy is really running the show & he
is just there for window-dressing.
Rita's recovery is also coming along nicely.
She has been diagnosed with post traumatic syndrome. She is seeing a
psychologist a few times a week. Everyone is pulling for her. She hopes to
return to work soon. You can't rush these things, and she is very aware of this.
Connie keeps in touch with her. Connie then in turn fills in the squad on how
Rita is doing. Being one detective short means more work for everyone. They have
done an outstanding job of working together. Its been particularly hard for Andy
& Connie. With the extra case loads and trying their best to take care of
their co-workers/friends. On top of which, they are planning a wedding in
secret. Well, almost a secret. Most of their nights are spent making sure the
plans for this wedding are getting done. Can't make those kind of calls at work
with Martens around. Needless to say, all are looking forward to this weekend's
festivities.
Andy & Connie have decided to have their
wedding on a Saturday at their apt. After T-Rod was shot, of course the wedding
was put on hold. After learning he would pull through, then the wedding was a
go. They decided on a Saturday because everyone would be able to relax &
enjoy themselves. These last few days have been hell. Tough cases, long hours
and planning a wedding. That's a full plate. In the end it will be well worth
it, for tomorrow, they will marry.
Connie had her alarm set for 6am. If she got three
hours sleep it would have been a miracle. Tossing & turning all night. At
5:45 she wakes up again,
Connie: No sense in trying to sleep (mumbling to herself).
She rolls over and looks at the new day coming to life. She hugs Andy's pillow. His sent fills her.
Connie: In a few hours, I'm gonna be married to Andy Sipowicz. Life is good.
She don't care too much for waking up alone. Andy had insisted they not see each other until their wedding day.
Connie: Always the gentleman.
They had said their goodnight over the phone. Andy called at 11. They chit-chatted for a few minutes. A little old fashioned she thought but nice.
Connie: Alright, may as well get my shower while Michelle
is still sleeping.
Her mind was racing while she showered.
Connie: Ok, mom will be here by 10. Andrea will pick up Michelle at 11. Then John will be here by noon to help decorate and help with the caterer. I'll start getting dressed at 3:30. Then, with a little luck, buy 5 o'clock, I'll be Mrs. Andrew Sipowicz. Sounds like a plan.
After work on Friday, Andy and Jr. picked up Theo at school. The three of them were going to sped the night at Jr. apt. Andy had asked Jr, to be his best man and Jr. had accepted graciously.
Jr.: Are you sure you wouldn't want to ask Greg or someone else?
Andy: Medavoy is a great guy, its just sometimes we're from different worlds or somethin'.
Jr.: Oh, and we're not?
Andy: Ya know, we're partners and stuff.
Jr.: I would be honored to be your best man, Andy.
Jr. has learned that when it comes to dealing with Andy, its best to just go with the flow. Take for example, Andy not seeing Connie until their wedding day. He found it rather funny, considering they've lived together for the better part of a year now. Andy explained to him its just what ya do, its tradition.
Jr.: Oh, old school. I thought maybe you were gettin' cold feet and needed a babysitter.
Andy gave him one of his looks and shook his
head.
Andy's ulterior motive with having Theo with them
there would be no talk of a bachelor party. He hated using Theo like that, but
he hated the thoughts of a party more. They had a very nice night. After dropping
off their bags at Jr. they went out for pizza and ice cream. They got back
around 9 and then got Theo off to be shortly there after. Andy was a bit wound
up this night. Jr. did his best to keep Andy calm and reassure him everything
would be fine. They spent the rest of the night talking. Everything from Andy's
first marriage to John Sr. death. Jr. had come a long way on that subject. He realized
he wasn't responsible for what his dad did. And thanked Andy for seeing him
through. Andy had come a long way himself. Always remembering the past. What he
should/could have done for Danny. His relationship too late with his own son.
All lessons Andy took to heart. At about 11 Andy called Connie to say goodnight.
He kept the conversation short as not to agitate her or himself.
Andy and Connie were two peas in a pod this night.
Neither of them slept much. Both tossing and turning. If Connie was worried
about how the day would go, Andy was worried about how the rest of their lives
would go. To this day he couldn't believe his good fortune. What she saw in him
was beyond him. Sometimes he would beat himself up so bad. She had a power over him.
Ever the self-doubter. Never when it came to his professional life, that was one
thing he was sure of. It was when the day was over and he was alone with his
thought. Would he be able to provide a good life for her? Was he what she really
wanted or was she just willing to settle? His alcoholism, what would happen if
he fell off the wagon? These were some of the questions that plagued his soul
this night.
He knew he need her. His need for her was near
addiction. It seemed the harder he tried to hold back these thoughts, the faster
they came. If she was with him right now, he could roll over and hold her and
smell her. The smell is what quieted his emotions. But, tonight he was on his
own. A pillow just wasn't going to cut it with him tonight. He got up to get a
drink of water. 3am. Tonight, it wasn't just the doubts that kept him awake. He
knew he had an a very important appointment in about 12 hours. He wanted to take
Theo with him, but thought the better of it. This was something he had to do on
his own.
