Minutes from 1-5-99
Due to Sara Schaef's failing health, Snotty, the ever faithful friend, will be providing the minutes for this week. Gates, Snotty, and Brian (new member) were not fooled by the Ratner's Deli storefront, although the boys did look skeptical as the three were directed to the back double doors with the "No Entrance" sign. Sure enough the Spirits walked into a dark, swanky, jazz bar. Because it was just the three, in the whole bar, the bartendress, Emma was quickly befriended by Gates' smooth talkin' "so, I spent New Year's in Miami." Emma was quite impressed. Food was ordered by the three. As soon as both Gates and Brian excused themselves to the restroom, Limey arrived to see the cool girl Snotty hanging out at the bar with all her friends. Sauce arrived soon after. Looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends, Snotty (in true Snotty form) questioned why she has never met any of the upcoming chooser line-up. She was quickly reprimanded by sharp tongues. After Snotty was snapped at she decided to head to the upper level, looking for some friendly folks. One of the members of the photographers' party thought she was part of their group and welcomed her warmly. Once she discovered Snotty was nothing but a poser, the friendship faded. But, this opened the door to the new found friendship with Theodore, Lansky's owner. Theodore suggested that the boys sour moods may be due to the lack of women in the crowd, although he was quite pleased with the ratio. He offered to spread a rumor that Emma was single - too late, we had already watched Gates smile fade when Emma told him about her boyfriend. But, as we always say, just because there's a goalie, doesn't mean you can't score, so the boys persisted. I guess the Spirits were a little desperate for conversation, because it turned to New Year's Resolutions. The theme for 2000 seemed to be getting healthy. So we all decided to run a marathon. From now on, Spirits' meetings will be held at the Reservoir in Central Park. Gates' resolution was both to be a better husband, and to date more artsy chicks. In the year 2000, Limey will join the gym. He did qualify however, that joining does not necessarily mean going. Chris Reynolds was the next to arrive (Mr. Responsible). The irony of his presence, but not the presence of the chooser was noted by Sauce. It was also noted that this was the third meeting to which the chooser did not attend. Snotty doesn't think the first meeting at Sweet and Vicious should count since Malibu was not yet part of the club. But by that logic, no meeting should really count since it now seems that Malibu is still not part of the club. Ruddy Steve and Cowboy Dan were the next to arrive - together?? Not sure. Ruddy was wearing a snazzy sweater (not a Christmas gift) with a collared shirt, all that was missing was a Bermuda bag and he would have been ready to go. Never wanted to be discouraging, the look was quite handsome. Luckily, Snotty lost her only girl status with the arrival of Nip Nip, Lisa and Kurt, fresh from their dinner. Lisa made the mistake or ordering a "nice Chardonnay." The chalice she was handed apparently was not so nice. It remained on the bar, full, at the end of night, long after Lisa's departure. Ever the polite Brit, Limey quietly questioned the protocol of returning a drink with some sort of schmeg stuck to the inside. Snotty said it was indeed acceptable, and summoned Theodore. In a move somewhat reminiscent of Bugger, in Revenge of the Nerds, Theodore thrust his tongue into the glass, sucked the foreign object off the glass, then lapped up some of the beer. After that Limey was given a new beer. Ruddy chimed in on the on the New Year's Resolution talk stating that in the Year 2000 he would go on a date every weekend. A bit less aggressive than his earlier resolution. When the bar staff changed, the Spirits departed. We think.
