In early 2005 over 2,000 people auditioned to be a part of the National Youth Theatre workshops in London this summer. Auditions were held all over the country and the turn out was the companies highest yet. Fast forward several months to August 17th and these hopefuls had been narrowed down to a successful 500 who had since made their way to the LABAN Center in Greenwich. Some were commuting, most were staying with some coming from as far as Manchester, Scotland and Newcastle. Unsure exactly what to expect the 250 people that made up the second summer course were crammed into an alien studio in the LABAN dance center. They were then split up into nine groups and thus - Course 17 was born.
After being relocated to yet another studio, the 28 individuals began their journey to becoming one group. We were instantly introduced to our amazing group leader Roz Paul and her assistant, the fantastic David. As the days passed the group got closer and closer, the work got better and better and the parties later and later, until the week culminated in one massive drunken celebration.
