The Morning After: My reaction...by Melissa Lauren W.

There's something about music that gets inside everybody. Something that makes you want to dance, cry, sing, and just feel! Hanson has the gift of music. So, when you are sitting in a room surrounded by their fans immersed in the screams, and the music starts...everything else fades away, well almost. (My ears still ring every once in a while hehe)

If Hanson was going for a more intimate feel this tour, they got it. The simplistic backdrop that the lights played off of, the fact that the lighting was slanted at an angle behind Zac...the whole set was geometrically interesting, and just the overall look was uncluttered and very 'clean'.

Aside from some girls who passed out, were getting crushed, or a combination of the two the show was pretty accident free. Although Hanson, the gentlemen that they are, stopped the show several times to say things like: "I'm serious guys, we're just going to keep stopping!" "You really need to just take one step back." etc. etc. But the highlight was when Zac decided to put his two cents in, "MOVE YOUR BUTTS BACK!" and at one point with a Brooklyn accent, "Don't make me come down there and glue your feet to the floor." They appeared concerned and a little frustrated when the crowd would move forward again despite their asking them to move back and stay back, only seconds before the next song started.

The music was amazing being played live by the band members Isaac (guitarist), Taylor (keyboardist), and Zac (drummer); they also had three very talented men backing them whom they thanked. They are a breath of fresh air in a mainly "group" rather than "band" genre, but Hanson's entire show was rock! I didn't see much of today's "pop" influence minus the teenyboppers.

The backbeat on the bass drum that Zac played until the pedal literally snapped in two, Isaac broke several strings while he was rocking out, and Taylor who with great enthusiasm riled the crowd up until he himself, oblivious to the speaker...ran into it. The vocals stung the soul with the emotion apparent on their faces on songs such as, Dying To Be Alive, Hand in Hand, A Song to Sing, and the title of their new album and this tour, This Time Around.

With encouragement like, "Jump," "Clap," "Wave your arms"...you felt like ty were including you. The music itself seemed to flow freely from them as if they couldn't give it to the audience with enough enthusiasm or couldn't give it fast enough. Obviously tired when they announced the last song. They humbly accepted the screams and applause. When the dust cleared and people were still chanting "Hanson" the trio hobbled back onstage to do three more songs. They played 27 songs in all, and trust me they felt it.

The music had a lot of diversity from Janis Joplin's "Take Another Piece of My Heart," to previously unreleased in the US, "Smile," to "Run Away Run" off the new album, and back to the beginning with "MMMBop," and "Stories". These three young men have more than proved themselves as musicians and entertainers. I suggest you catch the show, and God bless everybody!
