A Brief History of Time

(A Revelation in Prose)

In the beginning
There was the One
The Great Architect
ART
Infinite cosmic power
Itty-bitty living space
Then One split into two
The Architect and the Prince
And they made a third
The Empress
Divine Mother
Who gave birth to creation
Which split into two
Darkness and Light
The separation caused Wind
Which set things into motion
And created Water
Darkness crept into Water
And Light floated on Wind
From the union of Water and Darkness
Was born Earth
And therein came reflection
As Darkness struggled to see itself in Light
Light tried to hide from Darkness
And clouds and rain emerged
Along with the sun, the moon
And all the stars
Each star became an angel
And the heavenly bodies became anchors
So that the Universe stayed round
And as Darkness chased Light around
Life emerged from the sparks
First the fish in the water
And the grass on the ground
Then the birds in the sky
And the amphibians in the mud
Then flowers and trees
Mammals and bees
And Darkness mocked Light
Declaring himself God of both the land and sky
Light raged in anger and threw down electricity to uproot Earth
But Darkness would not be moved
He rearranged himself to swallow the storm
But the thunder and lightening evoked the Gods
They looked at Earth with dismay
And insisted that peace come to the fray
In the ensuing silence Darkness formulated a plan
Having seen the face of Divinity he decided to make himself a friend
One day a being crawled out of the mud
Having two eyes, two ears and a nose
A mouth to speak
And a heart to receive
Ten fingers and ten toes
But it could not walk
For it was hollow inside
Said Darkness to Light
If you fill it I will end this fight
And so they called it Atum
Said Light to Darkness
Will you leave him to wander all alone?
And as the day turned into night
From the body of Atum was made a bride
And Atum called her Eve
In honor of the collaboration between Darkness and Light
Together they lived in Paradise
Naked and pure
Without the Word
Or the Holy Seed

One day the jealousy and self-servitude of Darkness
Became too much for Light to bear
She went to find Divine Mother
To see what could be done
Darkness was constantly plotting against Light
To be the only one
So to Light was given a Seed that would grow wondrous fruit
She took the Seed and planted it in the garden of Paradise
From this Seed grew a mighty Tree
With a trunk of silver and leaves of gold
Then she told Darkness everything she had come to know
In that moment Darkness created a son
From the dragon came a serpent
Sent to guard the Tree
But unbeknownst to the dragon
The Architect has sent his Prince as the Seed and his Empress in the fruit
So when the serpent reached the Tree it became full of the Prince’s Holy Spirit

One day as Eve was gathering fruit
She happened upon a giant Tree
From the shadow emerged the dragon
Who told her that the Tree was forbidden
And its fruit meant certain death
So for many days and nights
Eve watched the Tree with horror and delight
Never daring to touch it for fear of its great light
It just so happened one evening that Atum and Eve had a fight
Atum was angry that Eve spent so much time
Starring at the sky and wondering why
For he had no answers to give her
And it gave him a terrible fright
Eve ran out into the dark night and quickly became lost
Until appeared before her a gold and silver light
As she made her way towards it
She realized it was the Tree of Life
And she stopped short full of fright
Suddenly the leaves began to tremble
From some movement just beyond her sight
There appeared the serpent who convinced her to take a bite
And as juice ran down her arms
And flesh slid down her throat
She was filled with Spirit and the words she had prayed to quote
I know from whence I come
And she ran home to tell Atum what she had found out
But Atum would not believe her
Preferring to call her mad
So she dragged him out to see it
But alas he could not see
The serpent was not found
Only a withering tree
Its golden leaves strewn about
But upon closer inspection
There were seeds all over the ground
So just to prove his point
He swallowed a whole hand full down
Suddenly between his legs
Emerged a serpent and two egg sacks
All pointing at the ground
Atum looked at Eve
Eve looked back at Atum
And they quickly took up leaves
To hide their excitement and their shame
When suddenly there was a loud roar
And Darkness rolled in all around
Light tried to fight back by throwing fire but was foiled by rain
Atum and Eve were washed out of Paradise
And abandoned on unstable Earth
They clung together preparing for the worst
But death never came
Only an end to the rain
And so they found themselves
Alone and naked
In a world of strange beasts
And strange people
With dark and solemn eyes
They were cautious and wary of outsiders
Especially those washed in by rain
But as time went by
The accepted Atum and Eve
Taught them how to hunt and garden
To fish and fashion tools
How to build shelter and make clothes from animal skin
But most of all
They taught them how to make new life
And Eve gave birth to twins
One they called Able
And the other they named Cain
One was filled with light
And the other tormented by the dark

Now these boys gave the dragon an idea
And he formulated a new plan
To rid Earth of Light once and for all
For he knew Spirit was his master and he abhorred his lack of light
He came unto Atum in his slumber
And took away his sight
Then he set out to start a rivalry between Able and Cain
He favored one for attributes and the other for shortcomings
He praised one for intelligence and the other for athleticism
He treated one like a grown man
And the other like a little girl
He chastised one for crying and the other for being cold
He gave one a golden spear and the other a silver hoe
Until one day
Cain killed his brother
In a fit of blinding rage
Then he panicked and hid the body deep inside a cave
When the dragon said to Cain
Where is Able, I have seen him not today
Cain, believing his actions had gone unnoticed, said with great dismay
I know not where he is for my brother’s keeper I am not
Suddenly he was filled with the knowledge of his actions
And fled to exile full of rage and shame
Harboring hate in his heart for all his remaining days
Never realizing all the potential he still contained

Atum wept in anger and cried out with pain
Eve kissed his eyes and wept in silence
Until her determination was regained
She went out into the night to find for her missing sons
Calling out for them with a soul filled with rage
She woke the fallen angel who had been sleeping until that day
With every tortured step she took danger crept closer into range
And she began to realize that she was not alone
As dawn reached her face the fallen angel fell in love
And took her for his concubine
Meanwhile Atum’s sight was restored and before him shone a light
A voice calling out to him told him to make haste
So he ran toward the east as fast as he could fly
He found Eve abandoned and unconscious
He could not wake her so he carried her home
For months he watched her toss and turn
A baby forming in her womb
He prayed all night and most the day
But the dragon would not appear

Every ethereal being was called to Heaven
To decide the dragon’s fate in the trial for Able’s soul
And when it was completed
They caste the dragon into the Abyss and left Able to guard the hole
Unto Eve they gave two new angels so that when Atum awoke
There was a shinning beam of hope
A Voice calling out to him that Eve had been made whole
They had given her two boys who would be the Savior
And the Sword for righteous they were both
Perfect gifts from Him who was not created but is
And always was

Shem and Noah grew into brave, strong men
Their knowledge inherent and unmistakable
Taught the people how to work fire, metal and soil
One day an angel appeared to Atum and appeared to Eve
Told them that the waters must be equalized and the darkness removed
Then the angel told them all about life and death
How things came to be
Told them that it was time to leave
But peace they could not yet have
For there was work to do
They must protect the Earth until the Day of Judgment
So they each made a solemn vow
No matter what the cost was
They would find the other again somehow
To Shem and Noah were given tasks as well
To Noah save the righteous
And to Shem make good multiply
They built an ark together and filled it with Earth’s bounty
For 40 days and 40 nights the sky fell to the ground
And when the rain stopped rainbows did abound
From behind the clouds emerged all the twinkling stars
Finally the waters receded and the ark settled down
They opened the door to Ethiopia and the view of it did astound
Reds and blues, greens and brown
Purple, yellow and orange could all be found
For a thousand years of birth and death the dragon was not around
But every sentence has an end

Still good and evil have never truly battled
When one has reigned the other has laid dormant
But quickly comes the end of days
When all parties will be present
The fate of Earth’s inhabitants must be decided
Once and finally
The bride and groom who search the Earth
Will have their wedding day
For fate has kept them separate
But destiny is coming back around
The Empress and Prince will meet again
The Gods depend upon it
For it was she and him that got the whole thing started
And only they can resurrect the recently departed
Atum the Prince
Eve the Empress
Cain the Wind
Abel the Water
Shem the Sword
Noah the Savior
Darkness the Revelation
And Light the Equalizer
One day will reunite
For with the fallen angel Satan and the Earthly sprites
A great apocalypse is brewing
Clever and precise
What has begun
Must come to an end
When all the pieces once again
Will become just One
