Sweet SummerRain
(Sunshine Part 4)
She was called
Honey-Brown Sunshyne
Mrs. SummerRain
If youÕre nasty
Taste like candy
Smelled that way too
Tried everything
Picked one or two
Three if youÕre lucky
Irish cream caffeine
On a cold night
In Harlem
Some times square
A few times divided
Once in a while undecided
Done it, tried it
Denied it
Supplied it
Gave it away
Begged it to stay
Never let them stray
Too far
Before reeling them back in
Only to repel them away again
Later on
Waiting for the one
The undeniable
Knight Sky to ride
ThunderCloud into the sunset
And make
Sweet SummerRain again
Early May some say
But Ōtwas February
When the first
Sun shower fell
And drenched the grass
With HoneyÕs dew
But by SummerÕs reign
The streets were hot
And the block
Caught the vapors
Smoke and ashes
To ashes and dust
When violence wasnÕt enough
Love haters criticize
But lovers pay no mind
Lord and Lady prophesized
Pledged and vowed
As he journeyed
And she waited
Until he came back
From distant lands
And heroic adventures
With tales of wonder
And war between gentlemen and thugs
Of which he was the victor
Always victorious
In games of reason
Or strength
Picture of health
Sometimes
She rolls her eyes
And sighs
Strong as an ox
Sly as a fox
And who are we to deny
ThatÕs sheÕs the
Apple in his eye
Her booty
His throat
Two hearts
One hope
Trying to cope
Pray for the best
Expect the worst
Walk the tight rope
Run the light
Put up a fight
Say, good knight
Welcome the sun
Are we having fun, yet?
Did you catch that
Or did it go over your head
Remember what IÕve said
Forget the rest
DonÕt be a pest
ItÕs not over yet
The river is through the wood
And logs float downstream
After ThunderCloud storms through
Carrying Knight Sky to Sunshyne
In the early morn
Holding her favor next to his heart
As she lays awake
Listening for Thunder in the wind
Waiting for Sweet SummerRain
