~*~I'm checking you out~*~ Summary: Jenna's your average "nerd" who works at the local library; she's the last girl any guy would be caught dead with. And when the hot new guy strolls in, asking for a book, Jenna has hearts in her eyes. But does she even have a chance? A/N: Just an idea that's been bouncing around in my head. I've always fantasized about this happening to me--what? Shut up. *blushes* lol ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Slow and unnoticed, the glasses slipped down the bridge of the girl's oily nose, plopped off the edge, and landed above her lip. Even with the glasses away from her eyes, the girl turned the page to her novel and continued to read, not bothering to remove the misplaced object. A fist landed onto the table and her head jolted up. "Geez, Jenna, you're such a nerd," the owner of the fist chuckled as she snatched the book from Jenna's grasp, "What's this? A romance novel?" she flipped through the pages, her grin growing bigger and Jenna's face growing redder. "Oh my God," with a snort, she began to read the pages out loud, "And he gazed at me with such longing and need as he slowly undid the button on my pants. . .HA!" Jenna wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Why didn't the earth swallow you up when you wanted it to? The brunette repositioned her glasses on her nose, just so she didn't have to just sit there and take in all the laughter the witch was causing. "Hey, Jessica. What's going on?" A friend, or rather follower, of the rude girl before Jenna. Jessica giggled and flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder, "You have got to read this crap. It's too funny!" As she passed it to her friend, Jenna asked for the book back. "Please?" she asked quietly. A wicked glint shone in Jessica's eyes and she motioned her whole group of friends over. "You guys, check this out. . ." Before long, the football team and cheerleading squad was crowding around the check-out counter of the library and were currently flipping through the pages of the book Jenna had been peacefully reading just a few minutes before. Laughter emitted from the small crowd and Jenna began to think that maybe they wouldn't notice if she left. She'd just have to give her apologies to old Mrs. Bennitt for leaving so early the next time she came to work. There was just no way Jenna could stay here and be humiliated in front of the popular kids of her school. As she got up from her seat, one of the football players, Charlie, noticed her moving. With an evil smirk, he stood in front of her, effectively blocking her exit; with the book in hand, he read a passage with an exaggerated theatrical voice, "He pumped into my weeeeet," this brought more howls of laughter from the herd, "heat. Slow, at first. Then faster, and faster. I shouted for him to thrust harder-" Another football team member interrupted and continued for Charlie. "Harder! Oh harder! Harder!!!" he mocked in a high-pitched voice. Another wave of laughter erupted and Jenna's cheeks burned. Tears stung Jenna's eyes, but she wouldn't let them see her cry. She wasn't going to show them that she was affected by their ridicule. Praying for an escape, she attempted to push the man away, but he swung his arm around her shoulders and she stood stock still. She knew he wouldn't let go until he got his word in. That was the way it always was. Whenever she tried to get away, he'd just hold tighter and it'd make for more fun to see Jenna try to run away. So instead, Jenna stood there and waited for Charlie's rude comment that she knew was to come. And just like he had read her mind, he finally said, "Honestly, Jenna, I don't get you." everyone quieted, eager to hear what was next, "I told you that I could get you off, you don't need books." Breaking the silence were their snickers and giggles; he waved at them to be quiet because he wasn't finished. Bringing a hand to his chin, he pretended to think, "Oh wait! That's right. . ." There was that evil grin again. Jenna inwardly cringed. "You don't want anyone taking away your virginity. But, sweetie, who else is going to want to have sex with you? I mean, look at you. You don't look pretty at all, what, with all that oil and spots of red you got there on your face. At least with me, you wouldn't have to pay anyone. . ." Jenna finally gathered enough strength to push the jerk away and slapped him. Turning away, he tried to grab for her, but Mrs. Bennitt had walked out of her office. "Is there a problem here?" Jenna disappeared behind a row of shelves and the group's laughter echoed in her ears. "No, no problem," Jessica giggled and dragged her boyfriend, Charlie, away. Shaking their heads with laughter, they all exited the building and Mrs. Bennitt called out for her employee, "Jenna?" Huddled in the back row of nonfiction books, Mrs. Bennitt found Jenna and limped her way over. She sat her cane to the side and sat down beside the sobbing girl. Wrapping her arm around the teenager, she stroked her hair as a soothing gesture, "Sh, now. Don't be crying." "They're so c-cruel." Jenna managed to gasp between sobs. "They sure are," Mrs. Bennitt bit out, but smoothed our her tone once again, "But they don't know a thing. You're a smart, talented, and beautiful-" "I'm not beautiful." Jenna corrected, wiping the tears away from her cheeks. The old woman smiled, "Oh yes you are. You have so much beauty." "I have all these pimples and I own the worst dry hair that's ever been recorded in history, and darnit!" she whipped of her glasses and glared at the large, round spectacles, "I need contacts. Jessica's right. I'm a nerd. I'm an ugly nerd." "It's what's on the inside that counts," Mrs. Bennitt reminded. Jenna silently groaned and sighed. Just so she'd stop trying to make her feel better, she reluctantly agreed, "Sure." "That a girl," she praised, limping back over to the counter and checking in books. From her spot on the floor, Jenna sighed and rested her head against the wall, "It's what's on the inside that counts," she repeated. Seeing herself reflected in the windows, she rolled her eyes. Then with a snort, she whispered sarcastically, "Yeah right." ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ A/N: Whatcha think? Continue? Don't continue? Please be kind and review. =) |
