King Of The Coast 2003!!!! In the stox 19C Malcolm Ngatai won two heats, 61N Jason Moir the other. Not sure who won overall, but I think it was probably Malcolm. 20 cars fronted, and the racing was perhaps a little less full on than in Nelson last weekend. 9 Chch cars, 10 Nelson and Corey Harwood from Blenheim in the ex Phil Nimmo car. Sorry I dont have more details as I wasnt taking notes for this one, just sitting back and enjoying it. But 17C Greg Keegan took out the Supers title with 2 wins and a second. His drive in the last heat was pretty sensational - from last to first, only getting to the front as he passed the white flag. And 34D or is it 34T Ray Stewart won the first heat with some ballsy outside passes. 17 cars I think. 7GM Lindsay Hughes won all 3 Mod races, with Tony Frost the best of the rest - 7 Modifieds. 15C Andrew Good was looking, er, good to take out the Streetstock title when he got caught out by a freakish last lap incident where another car was flung across the track into his right front, damaging the wheel. 19C Chris Leigh won the heat and the title I think. There were 24 Streetstocks. Not sure who won the TQs or Production Saloons. A Greymouth car won the Ministocks in a run off with I think 34C from memory. The last Ministock heat was full of heavy contact and a few good roll overs - there seems to be some real aggression between the Chch and Greymouth drivers. Biggest
hit of the day was probably 31S Simon Bland in the last Streetstock
heat, full noise into turn3 (well really turn2 but they were going the
wrong way around) in an attempt to take out a Greymouth car. Biggest
mess of the day was probably 75N Mark Nicholl's new stockcar - he and
55C Matt Ngatai had a tussle in turn 2 which I didnt see, so I dont
know if Matt threw him in hard, or if Mark went in after Matt and missed. |
