The Oasis Fire Department provides fire prevention and fire protection to the 1,500 sq miles of the Department of Defenses Utah Test and Training Range(UTTR). The Range is characterized by bombing and munitions research areas, missle testing, storage areas, administration, housing, dining, and recreational facilities. The Oasis Fire Department provides rescue operations for both aircraft and structural fires as well as wildland fires. The Fire Department is also tasked with responding to hazardous materials incidents, natural disaster incidents, medical emergencies, munitions and missle testing standbys, as well as standbys on incoming aircraft. The Fire Department maintains and provides fire prevention and fire safety programs for the Oasis compound. The Oasis Fire Department is made up of all civilian personnel. Most of the personnel have come from the USAF as prior military although we do have some folks working in the Fire Department from the Marines, Coast Guard, and the Navy. The Fire Department personnel work a 72 hour work week. Currently we work a three day on four day off fixed shift schedule. All of the Firefighters work under the GS-081 series.
