From the very beginning of his career, Juozas Rimas worked on the status of the oboe as a solo instrument. He was the first one to play an oboe recital in Eastern Europe and Eastern Europe (back in 1972) and ever since has been one of the most active soloists in Lithuania. The oboist has given hundreds of concerts, radio and television performances, performed with G. Kremer, G. Rozhdestvensky, all major Baltic and Russian orchestras, recorded 5 solo LPs, participated in the recording of 8 more classical LPS, 2 CDs of Lithuanian modern music, 2 free-jazz CDs, premiered more than 40 original oboe works, some of them written specially for him, recorded more than 150 pieces, including his own arrangements, for the Lithuanian State Radio. Juozas Rimas is a professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music.
