K & H - A tale of a Firebaby and his Kitsune
Part 1
-----------------------------------
A small bundle of silver fur cautiously emerged from beneath the remains of a fallen tree. Wide golden eyes scanned the forest clearing, vainly searching for that warm, loving presence that had disappeared oh so quickly. Kurama whimpered, ears drooping. He was so hungry. Where was his mother?
-----------------------------------
The hunter grinned as he picked up the limp form of the four-tailed gingitsune. Her fur would fetch a very nice price, a very nice price indeed. Whistling, he turned around and sauntered off, his newest kill slung over his shoulder. Oh, he was going to have a FINE time in town tonight!
-----------------------------------
Kurama rested his head on his paws, a mournful whine rising from his throat. His mother wasn't going to come back, not ever. He couldn't even feel her anymore. Hot tears traced wet tracks down his face. What was he going to do now?
His stomach grumbled, cramping painfully to remind him that his last meal had been hours before. Sniffling, he got to his feet, absently shaking off the bits of bark that had attached themselves to his fur. He would just have to find food for himself. He reluctantly headed out of the den. He wished his mother were here. He missed her.
-----------------------------------
A blast of frigid air blew over the tiny infant. Hiei wailed, struggling as he was pulled out of the warm haven he shared with his twin. The loud cries of "Abomination!" and "Get rid of it, Hina!" only made him howl louder. Why was it so noisy and so cold? He wanted to go back, to that warm place inside his mother. Black tear gems fell to the floor unnoticed as he cried.
-----------------------------------
Kurama eyed the nasty looking bush warily. Those fleshy white fruits smelled just like his mother's milk, but those thorns-! His stomach growled insistently. The little kitsune whimpered. If only he could make those thorns go away! The bush rustled, shuddering as it reacted to the kit's unconscious release of ki. Kurama's eyes widened as the bush's thorns began to BEND away from his targets. Not one to spit on his good fortune, he quickly darted forward and sank his teeth into the soft white flesh. Sustenance at last!
-----------------------------------
Hiei huddled closer to the soft bosom of the woman carrying him. It was so cold out here. His tiny face scrunched up into a sulky pout. He wanted to go back to his mother. He didn't like this at all.
He liked it even less when a few moments later, he was thrown off the Koorime's floating island.
-----------------------------------
Kurama's head jerked up. He could've sworn he had heard - over there! Something was falling from the big chunk of ice above him, something small that was wriggling and wailing. Curiosity overcame the little kitsune and he scampered off towards the falling bundle. Maybe it was someone he could play with-! His golden eyes sparkled as he ran.
