About Your Donation |
The Oconto County Commission on Aging, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization. Even though our name says "county" we are not affiliated with Oconto county. Oconto county is slightly over 1,000 square miles, with an approximate population of 36,000. Six thousand (6,000) of this number are elderly. The income of the seniors of Oconto county are 2 times over the state average at the poverty level. We provide many services to the seniors within Oconto county: * Meals at the Community centers, our menus are planned by a dietician. Our meal site managers and their assistants do a wonderful job in creating a friendly, pleasant atmosphere for our senior participants. Card clubs, Bingo, visits from local school children and day-care centers; local musicians sharing their gift of music, occasional talks on topics of interest and fellowship. All of this is provided for the cost of a meal...a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal. (If there are special dietary needs, we accomodate those as well.) * Home Delivered Meals are delivered to the seniors that are unable to come to the meal site. The home delivery personnel take their jobs very seriously. Often they are the only people the senior will see all day. Part of their job includes checking that the senior is doing well physically, perhaps reminding them to take their medication and sharing a quick word or two of encouragement or simply listening for an all too brief few minutes. Again, all of this for a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal. * Bus transportation (wheel-chair accessible) is provided in Oconto, Oconto Falls, Lakewood, Crooked Lake, Suring and Little Suamico. These trips provide transporation to the meal sites, to grocery shop, beauty shop appointments or to go to a doctor appointment within Oconto or Oconto Falls, at a suggested donation of $2.00 for rural, and a suggested donation of $1.00 in city. Special trips are occasionally organized for sightseeing to enjoy the fall foliage, Christmas lights, Christmas shopping and to the Weidner Center in Green Bay to see special shows. * The volunteer escort program is staffed by volunteers to take the senior to special medical appointments outside of the areas that have bus transportation available. This program asks for a donation from the senior of 15 cents per mile. * Elder abuse reports are taken very seriously and are investigated. * Information on benefits for seniors is provided through the Benefits Specialist, Jackie Miller. |

Your support is greatly appreciated by the seniors we serve. |
