R ecognise the problem. Next cut out or cut down your habit.

E quip yourself for withdrawal. If you're kicking a physical addiction, your GP can help and advise on keeping it together through 'cold turkey', which can be really tough. Writing down all the reasons why you are quitting can help you get through those moments of doubt.

C ounselling can help. Talking about your feelings helps you come to terms with what led you into the addiction in the first place. It can also provide support as you break the habit.

O vercome boredom. Without a high to live for, many addicts worry their lives will be empty. The solution? Fill your time. The more things you get going, the less likely you are to lapse.

V igilance is vital. Anticipate cravings, crises and weak spots by establishing a plan to distract you. These feelings will pass.

E very minute is a victory. Looking too far ahead can be scary, so just focus on getting through each day.

R each out for support from friends and family. They'll want to help, but you have to ask for it.

Y ou will crack this addiction, even if it doesn't work out first time round. Remember every time you try you're one step closer to kicking that habit.
