The London and South Western Railway and later the Southern Railway ran a dedicated funeral rail service from London's Waterloo terminus to theBrookwood Cemetery. The expansion of the Metropolis led to the creation of a corresponding Necropolis. Narratives by Channel 4 and by the London Transport Museum places this undertaking in context |
Only the entrance to the special Necropolis station survived Second World War bombing. The building is now named Westminster Bridge House and sits betwen a convenience store and an office block. A monograph by John M. Clarke is available from the Oakwood Press but the Brookwood Cemetery Society offers tours of the site. |
