Quote:

Dogs are not my whole life

but they make my life whole

When my hair is thin and silvered, and my time of toil is through;

When I've many years behind me, and ahead of me a few;

I shall want to sit, and remember, dreaming in the sun;

And recall the roads I've travelled and the many things I've done.

I hope there'll be no picture that I'll hate to look upon;

When the time to paint it better or to wipe it out, is gone.

I hope there'll be no vision of a hasty word I've said

That has left a trail of sorrow, like a whip welt sore and red.

And I hope my old age dreaming will bring back no bitter scene

Of a time when I was angry, or a time when I was mean.

When I'm getting old and feeble, and I'm far along life's way,

I don't want to sit regretting any of my bygone yesterdays.

I am painting now the picture that I'll want someday to see;

I am filling in a canvas that will soon come back to me.

Of you all my shih tzu babies who are very dear to me,

I shall want to look it over when I'm old, and past my prime.

So I do not dare to leave it this while the paint is warm and wet,

With not a single thing upon it that I later I know I will regret.

For I love you more than ever for all you've given me,
Your unconditional love and time and cuddles when in need.

Every dog has a soul, somewhere deep inside

where all his hurts and grievances are buried with his pride.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying The scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been Dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one Side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, It was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the Arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the Gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and As he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are We?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water Brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveller Asked. "I'm sorry sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and Continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he Came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it Had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a Tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?" "Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveller gestured to the dog. "There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an Old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, Then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who Was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveller asked. "This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveller said. "The man down the Road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold streets and pearly gates? Nope That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would Leave their best friends behind."

I Stood By Your Bed Last Night

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew, in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

When I woke this morning I felt very odd I don't know why but I felt close to God The sun was shining, the birds were singing The music was soft, the bells were ringing And puppies were romping at play What a pleasant start to a wonderful day I remember lying down to take a nap I remember I had my head in her lap I remember the sad look in her eye I remember I had never seen her cry I remember I wanted to ask her why I remember hearing her say "Good Bye" I wanted to say don't cry for me I wanted to say just remember me I wanted to say I remember the toys I wanted to say I remember the joys I wanted to say I remember your thouch I wanted to say I loved you so much I wanted to say what an angel you've been For showing me the way to him When I woke up I knew there would be no pain When I woke up I knew I could play in the rain You've taken care of me all my life You've guarded me from trouble and strife You've been with me through good and bad You've always stopped me from being sad You've given me treats and given me care You told me what to expect when I got there So please don't cry wipe the tears from your eye I'll look down upon you with a woof and a sigh I'll gather my courage and march up to God I'll ask him when you get there to give you a nod For you were my master you were my friend And I'll be waiting for you at the rainbows end. PUPPY POEM

This morning, I woke up & kissed my dad's head.

I peed on the carpet, then went back to bed.

"The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great."

Then I thought about breakfast," I hope it's not late."

"

Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.

This never fails to make Mama smile..

I sniffed of everything, that we did pass,.

I ate something weird - it gave me gas.

"

I'm sure God loves me, I know that is true..

He gave me so many great things to chew..

Rugs, plants or rocks, I really don't care..

What I truly like best, is Dad's underwear..

"

That obedience book, was sort of yummy..

Though it didn't sit well on my poor puppy tummy..

I threw up a bit, but that was all right,.

When Mom found it later, I was well out of sight..

"

I made streamers of T.P., while running at full speed..

Mom is pretty quick -- but I was still in the lead..

I flew under the bed, and Mom flew past,.

She stopped-shook her head, and breathed,.

"You're too fast." .

"

"Mama later phoned Daddy, and said, "It was frightening!.

"That afternoon, she was sure I'd pooped lightning..

"She'd sat at the computer, while I chewed the cord,.

"She thought I was mad, but I was just bored..

"

"When Mama had enough, couldn't take anymore,.

"That's when my tushy got shoved out the door..

"I love it inside, but outside is best..

"Lay in the cool grass, and had a good rest.

.

"That didn't last long, there was too much to do--.

"Can't quite remember where I hid Daddy's shoe..

"I found an old bone, and scratched at a flea,.

"I watched the dumb squirrels as they jumped in a tree..

"I barked at the kids, when they got off the bus.

.

"I can't figure out why this makes Mama fuss..

"I barked at the neighbor, I barked at the wind.

"I barked and barked, till Mom yelled, "COME IN.

"

"The sun dipped in the west-soon Daddy would come!.

"I sure love my daddy: we always have fun..

"I barked at my daddy, then turned on my charms,.

"I woo-wooed, "Hello," then jumped in his arms..

"

"Sitting under the table -- it's sooo hard to wait..

"Daddy slipped me a goodie right off his plate..

"I raced through the house, and scattered my toys,.

"Ricocheted off the furniture, and made lots of noise..

"

"Mom found her purse - the one I abused..

"Daddy let loose a chuckle. Mom asked "Amused??".

"I cowered down low, I must be in trouble.

.

"Dad said, "Wasn't MY boy, it must be his double!.

"

"Mom turned off the TV, and said," Time for bed..

"

"Dad said "Let's go boy," and patted my head..

"I got in my spot, between Mom and Dad,.

"I thought 'bout my day and what fun I had..

"

"Mama kicked out my bone from the covers below,.

"Then let loose a sigh -- a sigh deep and low..

"She gave me a kiss, and snuggled me tight,.

"And whispered so softly,

" 'My darling goodnight'.
