GCh. Oregon Duck - "Joey" - Born April 1st, 2000 - Bay - Thoroughbred - Colt - Standing 17.3hh
Walkslikeaduck x West Bound - Champion racehorse, champion personality

Why Oregon Duck? Why Joey? Easy. I'm named after the incredible college atheletic teams of the Oregon Ducks. Joey Harrington was the star QB for the Ducks until he graduated in 2002 and was drafted 3rd into the NFL for the Detroit Lions. So, rahrahrah! GO DUCKS!

Oregon Duck, of Mystical Oasis Farms, was one of the top 2yo colts in training in 2002.  A handsome, quirky bay, "Joey" had a spectacular 2002 racing season.
He qualified for the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Turf and was consistantly one of the top 2yo turf horses of 2002.  He ended his 2yo season with the title of 2002 2yo Champion Turf Horse.
He was a multiple GI stakes placer at 3. He qualified to the 2002 International Triple Crown and placed 2nd in the final leg--the GI Wish Horse Derby.
Unforunately, in his 3yo season Joey was plagued with problems and injuries, including bleeding in a race which led to a bout of anemia, a bothersome quarter crack, and the final straw: chips in his left ankle.
Joey retired from the track on October 17th, 2003.
Joey's full of heart, personality and determination, and he will always be a stable favorite. He has stayed at his home, Mystical Oasis Farms, to live out a full and happy life as a stallion.
And for everyone out there that mocks his name? Joey has two words for you:

Quack! Quack!

In what was among the saddest news for Mystical Oasis Farms in 2003, one of our brilliant stars has fallen.
Oregon Duck, Champion 2yo Turf Horse in 2002, was retired to stud due to chips that were found in his left front ankle.
While these chips are repairable, we decided to retire Joey anyway. He has had an extremely tough, brilliant racing career, but in 2003 he has been plagued with injury and illness and has not been able to really dig his hooves in like he did as our star 2yo.
So, we decided that it was best for Joey to let him live out the rest of his life as a happy stud.
While we are saddened to let him leave our racing teams, we are thrilled to enter him in our stallion line-up.  With Joey's good looks, charm, race record, and quirky personality, we know he's going to be a valuble asset as a race-producing stallion for many years to come.

Are you going to send one of your mares to be bred to Oregon Duck?

No way!

Yes! Of course! Who wouldn't want a Duck-baby for the 2004 racing season??
