     **Megumi Ogata Interview**
RP: A cencered version of "Sailor Moon" has been airing in the U.S.Haruka and Michiru were turned into cousins and much of thier dialogue was changed. When the show first aired in Japan, were there ant complaints coming from the parents
or religious leaders?

MO: When I was cast to play, Haruka I asked director Kunihiko Ikuhara,
"Are they Gay?" He answerd, "Act as if they were a married couple." And I asked him again, "Married cuople...You mean with twi ladies?" He replied, "Yes." So they are husband and wife. Thier apperance on TV was sensational, something unheard of the TV cartoons.Even so, it seems they were able to grab the viewers heart. The programs ratings began to rise and I resieved alot more fan letters than before.Because so many people watched the show with thier family, not only the ani fans but small children and mothers became fans as well. There was a time when I was called "Madam Killer" (term for men who can get any women)
I'm sure the anime also apealed to gay people, too. I heard 'Sailor Moon ' was talk of the town Shinjuki 2-chome, a famous gay street in Japan It may have caused some problems in some strict religious families, but the entertainment won a victory over the religious fanatics.Mabey its because Japan isn't as religious a country as the US is.But the anime is not only about girls in mini skirts and gay couples. It also has a very interesting story. It focuses an very imprtant aspects of human behavior, and is very well written. The anime deserved popularity. Of course the sexiness is also an important thing. I am attracted to anime with the touch of sensuality-without being too inedcent like X rated movies, because sexy things are simply intertaining.
(lowers her voice to a Haruka tone) Don't you think so my cute little American kitties?
