Current research interest

Order-disorder behaviour of H-Atoms in TlH2PO4

TlH2PO4(TDP) belongs to the family of hydrogen-bonded (anti)ferroelectric materials of KH2PO4 (KDP) type. This compound shows two phase transitions at T1 = 357K and T2 = 230K. The transiton at 357K is known to be ferroelastic. In the ferroelastic phase of TlH2PO4 there are two types of H-atoms, namely H1-type atoms, which are still dynamically disordered and H2-type atoms, which become ordered. In this compound antiferroelectricity is directly associated with the ordering of H1-type atoms. In the ordering process one of the two crystallographic centers of inversion is lost. The dynamical ordering of H-atoms in the high-temperature phase is known to be directly correlated to the configuration of the PO4 groups. And the crystal structure at low temperature has not been solved until now. In order to confirm the above mentioned fact and in order to determine the low-temperature phase I am carrying out the neutron diffraction experiment with TlH2PO4- single crystal in the range from room temperature to 20K.
