Ready, Get Set...

Thank you to Bro. and Sis. Waddel for an awesome presentation at our annual Coaches Seminar in Mt. Vernon, OH. God's annointing was there in an appreciable way as the Waddel's shared their burden for Jr. Bible Quizzing. The information provided was an invaluable reminder of why we do what we are doing as coaches and the impact that our ministry can have on the lives of the children we work with. There was also a time to exchange ideas that will help to challenge and motivate our quizzers and keep practices from getting stale. We appreciate the many new faces in attendance as well as the new teams that are going to be joining us this year. Most precious of all were the testimonies that were given at the end of the seminar. The presence of the Holy Ghost was manifested in a mighty way God put His own special closure on the day. For those who were not able to attend a DVD set of the seminar is available for $15. Please send us an email if you are interested.
Looking For Questions?

If you are interested in ordering questions for the 2009 season you won't need to look very far. Scott Glover from Columbus has questions available for purchase. These questions are approved by our National Quizmaster and will be very similar to the style used at Extravaganza, District Finals, and Nationals. For more information or to place an order click here.
The Sooner, The Better

Indiana knows how to get a JBQ season started and Marion, IN was the place to be as teams from Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and Colorado gathered to get an early test of their skills. With Bro. Bobby Long as the main Quizmaster it was very apparent that the word is getting out..."The Sooner, The Better!" 18 of the 26 teams in attendance were either in the Beginners Division or First year teams. Ohio did its part to represent the youth movement with Toledo placing third in the Novice Division. Kole Gross(TOL) placed on the Novice All-tournament team and Jared Kufel(TOL) placed on the Beginners Division All-tournament team. Go to upcquiz.com for details on the results.
No Doubt.

Mt. Vernon was the place to be for the first tournament of the OhioJBQ season. At the conclusion of the day two teams made a strong statement that they will be the ones to beat at District Finals in June. In the Junior division, Columbus 1 made it look easy as they claimed an undefeated First place finish. While Dublin cruised through the Beginner division on the way to their own undefeated First place finish. However, the young quizzers from Cincinnati, Xenia, and Toledo demonstrated their emerging skill and may prove to become teams that should not be underestimated as the season progresses. An OhioJBQ Welcome goes out to our newest team from Harrison Hills and all the new quizzers that have memorized their verses so well. More details from the tournament can be found by clicking on the resuls tab above.
Recession-Proof

In a time when the economy is slumping, businesses are closing, and investments are failing it can be hard to find good news for the future. However, in Ohio the business of Bible Quizzing needs no bail-out or stimulus package, business is booming. There is no greater investment that can be made than to instill the Word of God in our children's hearts and the early dividends being paid were evident at the Lancaster tournament Feb. 21. The progress being made can be noticed in every game. Whether it is hitting the buzzer for the first time, answering their first question, getting their first ribbon or trophy, or making the Circle of Excellence for the first time; every parent can be proud of the investment they are making in their children through Bible Quizzing. By the end of the tournament, Columbus 1 proved they are more than recession-proof. They may even be bullet-proof as they finished yet another undefeated First place finish in the Junior Division. The first year quizzers from Toledo made an inspiring effort to come through the second round, but graciously settled for second place. In the Beginner Division, Dublin stumbled early to their first loss, but then finished with a flurry to claim their now customary First Place trophy. Go on to the results page for more details.

Gaining Experience

The young quizzers from Toledo travelled to Walkerton, IN to test their developing skills at the March Indiana District Tournament. The Beginner Division had all the look and feel of a mini-Extravaganza with the top teams from Indiana and Wisconsin in attendance. Toledo did their part to represent the Ohio District with a Fifth place finish amongst a field of 11 teams. While they missed the trophy round by just one place, Jared Kufel earned First Place on the All-touranment team with 112.5 ppq. More details on the tournament can be found at upcquiz.com.
Taking Their Turn

In a game that requires fast reaction time to hit the buzzer and quickness of recall to reference and quote a Bible verse it can be difficult for young Bible Quizzers to learn to be patient. Moreso in a year where two teams have dominated the top places in both divisions of OhioJBQ young quizzers must also learn perseverance. Based on the results of the latest tournament in Westerville it appears these lessons are being learned. In the Beginner Division Toledo took hold of their first First Place Trophy and Columbus finished in Second Place. Each team earned their trophies with impressive performances over Dublin. In the Junior Division, Columbus 1 continued their run-away-and-hide grasp on First Place with another undefeated day. However the Second Place Trophy has not been consistently secured by any team thus far and Dublin rose up to their best finish of the season. Click on the Results tab above to get more details.
Bloomin'

Psalm 85:11 declares, "Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven." It's the time of year we look forward to with the arrival of warmer temperatures, the melodies of the song birds, and the green buds on the trees and flowers. The evidence of spring time is all around us, but it's not just limited to the weather. The Ohio Jr. Bible Quizzers were in full bloom at the latest tournament in Xenia, OH. It is a joy and a marvel to behold the growing skills of these children who can quote up to 191 scriptures accurately, answer questions so quickly, and even with interrupting! God is certainly looking down with favor and raining down righteousness upon our Bible Quizzing families. In the Jr. division, Columbus 1 continues to reap the harvest of many years of hard work and experience with another undefeated First Place Finish. While Toledo planted more seeds of future growth with their First Place finish in the Beginner Division. There are so many quizzers that have become fruitful soil for God's word as the season had progressed from winter to spring, OhioJBQ is in full bloom! Go to the Results page see more. We look forward to seeing our Ohio teams on display at the upcoming North Central Extravaganza in Moline, IL Apr. 24-25.
Extra-Special Extravaganza

Moline, IL was the site for the North Central Jr. Bible Quizzing Extravaganza Apr. 24-25. There, 43 teams from Illinois, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Indiana, Tennesee, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio competed in the Jr. and Beginner divisions. Once again the teams from our District represented us well with outstanding performances. Columbus has made a habit of undefeated, First Place finishes in Ohio. They were not about to break that habit for an Extravaganza and brought home their biggest trophy. Torrie Glover(COL) was the Highest Scoring Individual with 91 ppq. In the Beginner Division, Toledo combined the efforts of their first and second round performances to gain the Second Place trophy. Jared Kufel(TOL) also finished as the Highest Scoring Individual in his division with 100 ppq. As a result of top places by our Ohio teams, each division will be able to send an additional team to Nationals! Although they did not come home with a trophy, congratulations to Toledo and Dublin who finished in 7th and 9th places in the Jr. Division, respectively, and to Columbus for their 7th place finish in the Beginner Division. 1-2-3...Who Is It Going To Be?

With only three National qualifying positions available for both divisions the Ohio Jr. Bible Quizzers gathered in Dublin, OH for one last opportunity, before State Finals, to sharpen their skills. Columbus 1 held onto their First Place trophy. However this was not without a challenge from Xenia who handed them their first District loss of the season to finish in Second Place. Dublin gained the Third Place trophy to finish out the Jr. Division action. In the Beginner Division, Dublin was the best of the show with a strong First Place finish. While Toledo battled with Columbus to gain the Second Place trophy. There will be a lot of hard work put in by each Ohio team over the next month as they look forward to the chance to stand on the platform at the conclusion of the State Finals tournament. Then we will see who are the teams worthy of a trip to Branson, MO for the 2009 NAJBQT. All teams need to register for State Finals by June 1. All Coaches, Assistants, and Officials need to send in their voting forms for the following awards in their respective division: Quizzer Of The Year, Most Improved, and Coach Of The Year. Also all Coaches need to send in the names of their quizzers who have completed all of their verses and the names of their quizzers who will be graduating from the Jr. or Beginner Divisions. We are going to have a great finish to the 2009 season in Mt. Vernon, OH. We want to see everyone there!
Branson Bound!

The journey began here, five months ago, in January and now the Ohio Jr. Bible Quizzers return to Mount Vernon to determine the State Champions, honor the finest Quizzers, and gather once more for a time of worship and celebration. All season, Columbus 1 has left little doubt that they are the best of the Jr. Division. Their accuracy and experience proved too much for anyone to overcome as they cruised through the matrix to take the First Place Trophy and return the State Title to Columbus. Can a National Title be not too far behind? Xenia and Dublin secured their reservations for a trip to the NAJBQT by obtaining the Second and Third Place Trophies, respectively. In the Beginner Division, it was another battle that went down to the wire between Toledo and Dublin. Both the last game of the First Round and the Championship game went down to the last question with Toledo prevailing each time to finish as the undefeated State Champion. Dublin will make its way to Branson with the Second Place Trophy. Xenia was the surprise team of the tournament by gaining the Third Place Trophy and the last qualifying position. Now Ohio's best teams will begin the road to Branson, MO for NAJBQT. Their next stop will be the Tournament of Champions in Lafayette, IN on July 4. Stay tuned to their progress here and at upcquiz.com for upcoming results. A special thank you to Bro. and Sis. Waddel for helping out as Quizmaster and scorekeeper on such short notice. We greatly appreciate the efforts of Bro. and Sis. Redmond and all our officials for making this season a success. May God bless all our quizzers and families with a safe, refreshing summer. We look forward to seeing you again in 2010!
High-Caliber Competition

The Tournament of Champions started ten years ago as an Indiana District event designed to avoid a long period of time off between State Finals and Nationals and to help sharpen the skills of the qualifying teams. Over the years it has grown to become one of the most prestigious tournaments in the nation. Hosted by Quizmasters Stephen Waddel and Terry Marshall, this tournament now draws the top National qualifying teams from all over the country. They all come for one reason, to test themselves against the best. This year was no exception as teams from IN, OH, MI, WI, MO, OK, KS, and FL were in attendance. In total there were 11 State Champions competing in both divisions. It was into this high-caliber climate of competition that the teams from Columbus, Toledo, and Dublin came to prove their worth. These Ohio teams demonstrated their readiness to battle the top teams in the nation by virtue of their fine finishes. Columbus claimed the Third Place Trophy in the Junior Division and Torrie Glover was the Second Highest Scoring Individual. In the Beginner Division, Toledo was the Second Place team, while Dublin finished in fourth place. Jared Kufel was the Highest Scoring Individual and Grayson Holloway was First Place on the All-Touranment Team. Go to upcquiz.com for more details and to follow our Ohio teams as they compete at the NAJBQT in Branson July 20-24.
Standing Tall

The nation's best Bible Quizzers gathered in Branson, MO for the North American Finals July 20-24. 100 teams in both the Junior and Beginner divisions made the journey to have one more opportunity to prove their skill in the scriptures they had memorized. In a tournament of this magnitude it is a significant accomplishment to have your team introduced at orientation. Not everyone who starts the season makes it this far. The Ohio District had the distiction of qualifying five teams to the tournament. Teams from Columbus, Dublin, Toledo, and Xenia rose to the acknowledgement of their peers on the opening day. After a long week of intense competition one Ohio team was able to make it to the trophy round. On the last day of the tournament the young quizzers from Toledo were standing tall with the Fifth Place trophy in the Beginner Division. Toledo's Jared Kufel was also recognized as the 2nd Highest Scoring Individual of the tournament. Visit upcquiz.com for all the results. Congratulations to all of our Ohio teams for their accomplishments over the course of a long season. You have represented us well and have added to our District's reputation as one of the best in the nation. Enjoy the rest of your summer and get ready for a brand new season as we continue with the writings of Luke in the Acts of the Apostles for 2010!
