or search all Erie
County Twps. at once, at:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi by typing " census 1850 Ohio Erie " in the DEATH PLACE box. Be sure to use the 'soundex'(or metaphone) and 'fuzzy search' options, for best results. If the surname for which you are searching, does not appear in my census indexes, but you are certain that the surname should appear, then please e-mail me. ohiopioneers@yahoo.com |
Many Erie County
marriage records from the 1800's can be found
at the L.D.S.
("Mormon") website:
www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
Simply choose the
'marriage record' search option.
In the search results,
the marriage entries that are in the 'International Genealogical Index'
which say ", Erie,
Ohio", are mostly transcribed Probate marriage records.
Unfortunately the
search-engine misses any names that were badly misspelled;
in which case,
try two searches, one using the husband's name, and one using the wife's
name.
[ For Erie County
marriages prior to 1839, they will be "Huron County"*,
and can also be
found online at the Erie
County OHGenWeb Archives. ]
Also, there are
many Erie County Probate birth-records, from 1867 thru 1880 or so,
at the above L.D.S.
website. Simply choose "birth record" search option.
(Keep in mind that
a search-result that says
", Sandusky, Ohio"
usually means Sandusky COUNTY, not Sandusky city. And
", Huron, Ohio"
usually means Huron County, not Huron village. )
Also, the entire
1880 census is transcribed online at the L.D.S.
website.
----------------------------------
Many obituaries
that appeared in the Sandusky(City) newspapers throughout the 1800's, are
indexed at the R. B. Hayes Presidential Library website:
http://index.rbhayes.org/
Unfortunately there
is no 'soundex' option, but creative searching may still bring a good result.
Use the 'advanced
search', for maiden-names (if they were given in the obit).
For instructions
on obtaining copies of the actual obits, click HERE.

If perhaps
your ancestor died after 1915 anywhere in Ohio,
you may find them
listed in the death-certificate index at the Ohio Historical Society website:
http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm
Note: Ohio death-certificates
after 1908, should contain the following additional "genealogical" info:
~ the birthplace
of the decedent,
~ the names of
the decedent's parents (and their birthplaces) ,
~ and the 'Informant'(who
is often the relative that provided the personal info!).
--------------
*Erie County, Ohio
was created in 1838, mostly from part of Huron County.

be found in Huron County.
