IRRIGATION

LOW COST IRRIGATION PROGRAM

Local farmers are reaping the benefits of the low cost irrigation program, which is being jointly implemented with the International Development Enterprises, North-East Region, Guwahati (India) - a non-profit enterprise based in the U.K. and the U.S.  We are entering the fifth year of the phase-wise program in 2005. So far, 125 K.B. Pumps (Pedal Pumps) have been distributed to the small and marginal farms.  Trained technicians of OISCA-Manipur with the help of local farmers perform the boring works for installation of the pedal pump.

 

DRINKING WATER

SAFE DRINKING WATER PROGRAM

Manipur faces an acute problem of safe drinking water. Since 1998, OISCA-Manipur has been continuing to provide the K.B. Pump - a type of hand/foot pump to identified villages in Thoubal district of the State. In the year 2003, OISCA-Manipur organized to install 30 K.B. Pumps under the low-cost drinking water program in 22 villages. The boring costs as well as the costs of the K.B. pumps were borne by the villagers. The Pumps were available at a subsidized rate of about Rs. 9201/- with wooden frames from OISCA-Manipur.

 

MICRO CREDIT (RMK)

MICRO CREDIT PROGRAM UNDER THE RMK

As an expanding credit support program for eradication of poverty, particularly among the rural poor women farmers, OISCA-Manipur is seeking credit loan from the Rashtriya Mahila Kosh, Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resources, Govt. of India, New Delhi.  The RMK has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 200,000/- as loan to lend to the rural poor women on micro credit support program.  So far, an amount of Rs. 100,000/- has been received from RMK and twenty four (24) poor women have availed the benefit of the micro credit facilities by lending  different amounts, ranging from Rs. 5000/-  to Rs. 2,000/- to different trades as identified by field surveyors.

 

RURAL MICRO CREDIT

RURAL MICRO CREDIT SUPPORT PROGRAM

Beginning in 1998 - 99, OISCA-Manipur has been continuously lending an amount of Rs. 350,000/- from its own fund to seventy two (72) poor village women, to support the micro credit facilities to the rural poor farmers for eradication of poverty among the rural poor women.  The lending amounts for different trades vary and range from Rs. 10,000/-, Rs.5000/- to Rs. 2000/- respectively.

 

MEDICAL CAMP

MEDICAL CAMP FOR CHILDREN & WOMEN

A four-day medical camp was organized by OISCA-Manipur at five villages in Churachandpur district, a hilly district inhabited by many tribes.  During the camp, about 200 women and 150 children received medicines  after being given medical check-ups  by doctors who volunteered. The cost of the medicines were borne by OISCA-Manipur. An awareness camp on health and sanitation was also organized on the final day of the camp. 

 

 KINDERGARTEN SCHOOLS

OISCA KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL

There are many remote villages in Manipur that do not receive any primary education facilities provided by the government. Noting this need, OISCA-Manipur started opening Kindergarten schools at identified tribal villages since 2003. Children of the neighbouring villages also avail of this education facility  under the OISCA Kindergarten school program.  The salary of the school teachers are provided by OISCA-Manipur.

 

 YOUTH FORUMS

ORGANIZING YOUTH FORUMS

To increase the number of youth forums and OISCA volunteers in different districts including the hill districts of Manipur, OISCA-Manipur has organized three youth forums, for women members only during this year. All the forum members are listed in the OISCA volunteer's book for guiding them to work with OISCA. So far, the total number of youths in OISCA volunteer book recorded is 423.

 

ANTI-POVERTY

OBSERVING THE ANTI POVERTY DAY

November 1 is observed as the Anti-Poverty day. On this day OISCA-Manipur selects sixty(60) of the poorest women as beneficiaries of the Social Security Scheme (Janashare Bima Yojana) and a contribution of Rs. 1201- is made by OISCA-Manipur for them for joining the Social Security Scheme, which is a scheme taken up by the Govt. of India. OISCA-Manipur is also working as the Nodal Agency of the scheme as appointed by the Life Insurance Corporation or India (A Govt. of India Insurance Cooperation). OISCA-Manipur will be contributing Rs. 1201/- every year for the selected beneficiaries under this Scheme.

 

RELIEF CLOTHING

DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF CLOTHING

To provide much needed clothing to tribal people living in hilly areas and poor villagers in Manipur, OISCA-Manipur has been arranging distribution of clothing, which has been donated by the Japan Relief Clothing Centre, Osaka, through  OISCA- International, Tokyo. The clothing material were handed over to the local organizations and clubs as well as OISCA-District branches for distribution of clothing to the needy peoples in different areas of Manipur.
