Now Playing: There's an Old Faded Picture on the Wall

Old Family Photos

I believe that this is Walt King (1897-1971), son of Willy and Ella Florence, and Ina Stone(1903-1983) the daughter of Ruben and Iantha Stone.

These two characters are first cousins John Labon Sayre (1892-1995) and Walter Lee King. John's mother was Nancy King (1856- ) and his father was Daniel Sayre(1845-).

The tall man on the left is my father Okey L. King Sr. I believe that the girl on his outside shoulder is his niece Thelma King (the daughter of George Leonard King (1888- ) and Olive Luverna Stone (1889-1921). Olive Luverna was the younger sister of Ruben Stone and was called "Vernie."

.....This is my mother Edna Luverna Stone the daughter of Ruben Stone and Iantha Dunham Stone. Edna was only seventeen when she married, but my father was twenty-eight. There were married at Winfield, West Virginian in 1927 by Rev. Kelbaugh.

.....At their home at 801 Dunbar Avenue in Dunbar, this is Walter Lee King Jr., Franklin King, Ina Stone King, Bill King, and Ray King

.....These litle tykes are Okey L King Jr. and Mary Jane Jacobs (1940- ) youngest daughter of Jim Jacobs and Myrtle Stone Jacobs of Vinton, Ohio. The date is about 1943.

.....Iantha Dunham Stone Pullins Sarver standing with her third husband John Sarver and her daughter Edna King at the Sarver Home at Buffalo, West Virgina.

......The King Place at Dunbar was the scene of many family visits. Among these family members are: Rube Sayre, Imelda King, Jimmy and Johnny Jacobs, Jim Jacobs, and Okey Lester King Jr.. The date is circ 1943-44. These families were very close.

..... This is the group picture of the folks present at Inatha Dunham, Stone, Pullins and John Sarvers Wedding which took place at Iantha's brother Lackey Dunham's place. Preacher Kiff is in the middle of the crowd.

.....Iantha Dunham Stone Pullins Sarver outlived three men and I believe that she might have been looking for a fourth when she was felled by a cerebrial hemorage. She was a very good grandmother to me, and we were fairly close. I cut her grass at Buffalo after Grandpaw Sarver passed away, and, often, she would stay with my family at Dunbar during the winter months. In the parlor at the Sarver home, there was a coal-buring fairplace. It was here that the adults would gather to talk. Much of what knowledge of the family that I aquired as a boy came from listening to the older folks talk around that cozy fire.

.....If you do not mind talking about death and if you do not think that you might be offended by a personal account of this natural occurance, you may wish to click on the title and read the story:
