This photo was taken early on a Sunday Morning just after a rain. The mountain is swrouded in mist, but the red buds are showing well.

.....Just as many West Virginia railroads no longer exist, many railroad structures that stood on existing lines also no longer are existance. Below you see the cut that replaced the Howard Tunnel at Caldwell on the old C&O. Just west of the tunnel stood the old Caldwell Depot. If anyone has a photo of this old depot, I would appreciate having a copy. My wife learned how to spell "Caldwell" from the sign on the depot. A number of tunnels still exist but are no longer in use. Below is the entrance to the old Great Bend Tunnel at Talcot. Until I have a photo of my own, I have borrowed one. Just to the east of the West Virginia Line in Virginia, there are also some tunnels that are no longer used or have been replaced by "cuts."
.....This is a modified version of a photo by Steve Brightwell found in the August issue of "Wonderful West Virginia."
