How did you first get involved at OLA?
I'd actually gone on a hike a couple years before, but I really didn't get involved at that time.  I had been going to Mass in Foster City, but there wasn't really any young adults at that church.  It was walking distance from my apartment, but I found myself looking for a new church.  I'd heard about OLA through a family friend and I'd gone a few times before.  I'd briefly talked to a couple people in the group there after mass.  Meeting new people can be intimidating, but once I decided I wanted to get involved in the group, I did.  I saw there was a Volleyball game after the 6pm Sunday Mass.  It was in the Bulletin and so I gave it a try.  I didn't know anyone, but now I know most everyone!  -Paul
I went up to the front of church after the 6pm mass and talked to a couple of the people in the group.  I left, but then Father asked me if I was new (and I was), so he walked me back to the group and introduced me to some additional people.  Everyone was very friendly.
When I moved to the Bay Area in 1994, I had a few college friends in the area, but no one in Redwood City.  I began to "church-shop" and accidentally ran across SAMYAM(San Mateo Young Adult Ministry).  I went to a discussion group and met a few people, but the group had had it's heyday and was dying out.  At one of the discussion groups, Kevin C invited each of us to come tot he OLA Young Adult Annual Fundraiser (a spaghetti dinner, country dancing and silent auction that year).  I decided to attend (by myself) in hopes of making some new friends in the area.  Well, the end of the story is that I did meet a lot of people that night, began to attend 6pm Mass at OLA and now I'm quite involved in the group.   - Susan W.
