Big News for 2000!

We’ve changed our name and our website and our email!

At the November business meeting, the group voted to change its name from

OLA 20/30s to OLA 20s/30s+. Thanks to all who participated in the discussion and vote.

Our new website is under construction: http://www.oocities.org/ola20s30s or email us at: ola20s30s@yahoo.com. (They didn't like our + sign so we'll have to live without it on the web…hope you understand!

WEEKEND RETREAT

Plans are moving along for the Second Annual OLA Weekend Retreat. We’re happy to report that Fr. Bob Noonan will be our leader for this weekend event, scheduled for Aug 4-6 at Silver Penny Farm in Petaluma. Our theme is "That they may have Life." To guarantee your spot, send your check for $80 (made payable to OLA 20s/30s+) to Marilyn Norton, 1128 Cortez, Burlingame, CA 94010 by April 15. JANUARY

Tuesday, January 4 Business meeting. Please join us at 7p.m. in the Youth Room as we plan our calendar for the coming months, and welcome Barbara Kiernan and Kathy Looney as our new presidents! If your New Year’s resolution is to become more involved in the group, come to this meeting! You’ll learn more about the exciting events we have scheduled and be able to offer your ideas on other activities.

Thursday, January 6

Choir practice. 7:30 p.m. at the Nortons’ home (1128 Cortez, Burlingame)

Friday, January 7

Taize Prayer at Mercy Center.

This special form of prayer is held the first Friday night of every month. If you would like to participate, please meet at the OLA parking lot at 7 p.m. to carpool to Mercy Center. (Parking is extremely limited.)

Sunday, January 9

**Senior Brunch. Volunteers are needed to assist with the Senior Brunch, which will be held in the gym following 10 a.m. Mass. Contact Paula (343-5809) or Marilyn (344-9273) if you can help with set-up, cooking, serving or clean up.

**Young Adult Mass at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, January 11

Two Tribes. Participate in a meeting among Catholic and Jewish young adults. The topic is "Men and Women's Roles in the Catholic and Jewish Faith". Sr. Monica Miller and a Reform Rabbi will speak followed by time for questions and discussion. 7pm at Temple Emmanuel on Lake Street in SF.

Friday, January 14

Let's support Jeff Bonilla, longtime member of the OLA choir, who is playing guitar and singing at Micha's Café in San Carlos (1754 Laurel St.) at 7pm. Anthony Norton will be on percussion.

Tuesday, January 18 Fellowship "Choices, Part II"

Fr. Michael and Sr. Patsy will host this special fellowship at 7p.m. in the Youth Room. This topic is a continuation of the October fellowship discussion.

Fellowship this month’s will focus on ways to enhance the Young Adult Mass to encourage more participation, enthusiasm and excitement. Sandy Flaherty will join us to teach Liturgy enactment of the Gospels. We expect this to be a fun evening…join us! The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Saturday, February 26 **Shelter Network Dinner

Join us as we prepare and eat dinner with residents of Shelter Network in San Mateo. Please come to the February business meeting to help finalize plans and watch the bulletin for more details.

Tuesday, February 29 RENEW Season Starts. Interested in learning more about the RENEW faithsharing program? This very successful program gives us an opportunity to discuss faith related topics with eachother on a regular weekly basis…Come to the Norton’s home (1128 Cortez) at 7 p.m. We’ll have the initial young adult meeting and divide into groups for the session, which runs for the six weeks leading up to Easter. Groups meet on a variety of evenings.

Calling all Lectors:

Young adult lectors are needed for all upcoming Sunday 6 p.m. Masses. Please sign-up at the monthly business meeting, or call Marilyn (344-9273) with your availability. If you are interested in becoming a lector, please contact Marilyn.

 

 

Our sincere condolences to Ener Lumanlan on the loss of his mother. May she rest in peace.

Farewell to Susan and Todd Eyler…as quickly as they came into the group, they are now moving to Boston. Farewell and Good Luck, we'll miss you!

Christmas Wrap-up:

Special thanks to Stephanie Flahavan for hosting the Christmas Mass and potluck at her home, and to all who participated in this event. Also, many thanks to those who shopped for and delivered gifts and groceries to our adopted families.
