Hang-gliding
A-License course / part 1

These pictures were taken by participants of the hang-gliding A-License course in Castelluccio, Italy, and Zillertal, Austria in May/June 2004. Bad weather prevented us from having enough flights required for the A-license exam...

Assembly instructions by Wolf in Penzberg

First assembly for all participants, one day before leaving for the course.

Love at first sight, me and my Synairgie Club 15.
The Penzberg practicing slope in the upper left corner.

Castelluccio di Norcia with the Gran Piano in the background.

The Gran Piano, our landing site. There are virtually no obstacles you can crash into :)

Day 1, good weather, with the Rotonda in the background.

The fog was gone by the time we completed assembly,
so the sun could fry our brains while we carried the gliders up the Rotonda.

My first takeoff with the new glider, from breathtaking altitude.

Waiting for the fog and strong winds to cease,
the gliders' arrangement prevents undesired takeoff.

Waiting in the wet and the cold, hang-gliders prove to be good rain shelters.

Another attempt at the Forca di Presta.

Gliders protected from winds too strong to start.

Tony and his Synairgie on the right, mine on the left.

Takeoff and landing site at Col Carbonara.

Hans instructing pilots at Steinerhof in Zillertal, Austria.
Landing target on the lower left corner.

Waiting for favorable winds at Steinerhof.

Steinerhof and the misused playground.

Line-up for takeoff.

During takeoff, the last step is performed in the air.

And off I go into the big blue yonder...

Martina´s takeoff.

Landing right on target...

... requires celebration with red wine.
