1961

Ford feeling the urge for more power stroked the 352 "Special" to 390 cubic inches. This engine was rated at 401 horse power, but was mostly the same as the 352. The big change for Ford in 1962 was the Borg Warner T-10 four speed transmission. This gave the racers a even chance against the GM and Mopar guys. This gave Ford a more than equal footing and they ruled in '61.

Ford's mid year release of the new carburetion system that used three Holley two barrel carb on a big port aluminum manifold increased the horse power by 16. Ford had just about made the Super / Stock game it's private property. Then Chevrolet brought out the "409" cubic inch engine. The "Car Wars" of the sixties had just started.

We are still building it.
