Sunshine In Her Eyes

© 1976/2001 John Hagius All Rights Reserved

She wakes and greets the morning
With a yawn.
Anticipating cloudy skies.
She pulls the shade and gazes round
Her empty room.
But there's no sunshine in her eyes.

Today just seems to her like
All the rest
She hugs her pillow and she cries.
An endless stream of broken dreams
And lonely hours.
'Till there's no sunshine in her eyes.

(chorus)
Love seems so easy
When its near at hand.
Love seems so hopeless
When withdrawn.
Take it for granted,
'Till we understand,
How sad it is when
Once love is gone.

She reads the paper with her
Morning toast.
Feels the deception and the lies.
She finds the comic pages, and she
Tries to laugh.
But there's no sunshine in her eyes.

And far away her old love's
Still asleep.
He dreams about her, and he sighs.
And wonders if she thinks of him
Or if she knows,
He still sees sunshine in her eyes.

(chorus)
Love seems so easy
When its near at hand.
Love seems so hopeless
When withdrawn.
Take it for granted,
'Till we understand,
How sad it is when
Once love is gone.

She dials his number with a
Trembling hand.
And hears his sleepy voiced replies.
They talk, she finally hears him, as he
Tells her that,
He loves the sunshine in her eyes.

(instrumental)

(chorus 2)
Love's never easy
It takes sacrifice.
Love's far from hopless
When its earned.
Love's many lessons
Serve us well through life
If we'll just practice
What we've learned...

She wakes and greets the morning
With a yawn.
Outside the sun's begun to rise.
She pulls the shade and gazes with a
Wonderous stare...
And soon the sunshine fills her eyes...
