“The Cat”
The little faller was here when I arrived.
Between him and his three siblings,
altogether they weren’t much size.
Oh my, how they looked so cute,
laying there feeding from their mother’s breast.
To day he’s the only one left,
no one really knows what happened to the rest.
One by one they wondered off,
Animals do this as they grow in time.
He hung around because I feed him,
now he’s become a friend of mine.
You can hear him from across the fields,
long before you see his hide.
He’s crying out, I’m hungry, I’m hungry,
fill my bowl, its suppertime.
He’s been away on a three day mission,
prowling around all hours of the night
He’s keeps all the ladies in the neighborhood happy,
they treat him well, they know his sign.
Then for days he’ll lay around eating,
He knows my hand outs are the tasty kind.
Getting older, fatter and sassy
the way I spoil him should be a crime.
Why just today as I was seated
underneath my favorite tree
He marched right over, laid himself down
and rolled over in front of me.
I patted his belly, rubbed his head,
scratched his back, he was a site to see.
He meowed, purred and rolled his eyes,
while swishing his tell like he was mad at me
One day he’ll leave and won't return
for sometimes animals do that you see.
Until that day he’s a welcome guest
for that crazy old Cat is a friend to me.
