There is still much to be learned about our McClure family but fellow researcher, Leonard Higdon, has started us on our way. Most of this information has come from Leonard and some from the Ancestral Files of the Latter Day Saints site at http://www.familysearch.org.

Our information begins with John McClure who was born about 1750 in North Carolina and died before 1800 in Spartanburg District in South Carolina. He married Margaret --- about 1770 in North Carolina. The children of John and Margaret are

John McClure, the son of John and Margaret McClure, was born about 1771 in North Carolina and died after 1850 in Gilmer County, Georgia. He married Lillian (Reese?) before 1794, their children are

Richmond McClure, the son of John and Lillian McClure, was born about 1796 in North Carolina and married Sarah ---. The information below was found on the Latter Day Saints site and was submitted by Jerry W. Ellis, microfilm submission AF90-101275. There is an incomplete address in the submitter file and I have no way of contacting Mr. Ellis to see if he has more information or not. Richmond and Sarah had at least one daughter.

      Martha McClure, the daughter of Richmond and Sarah McClure , was born about 1840 in Morganton, Fannin County, Georgia, she married William Garrison Cox, the son of William Cox and Elizabeth Brady on 11 Dec 1860 in Fannin County, Georgia, they had at least one son. Martha died soon after the birth of her son.

      James Beaureguard Cox, the son of William Garrison and Martha McClure Cox, was born 28 Dec 1862 in Morganton, Fannin County, Georgia and died 25 Dec 1933 in Los Angeles, California. He and his wife are buried in the Olive Law Cemetery in La Mirada, California. He married Eliza Jane Ellis, the daughter of Alexander Arnold and Mary Melinda "Polly" Chastain Ellis, on 31 Aug 1884 in Benton County, Arkansas. Their children are

Lavisa McClure, the daughter of John and Lillian McClure, was born 7 October 1797 in South Carolina. She married 23 August 1824, William Frazier Galloway, the son of John and Kezziah Mauldin Galloway of what is now Transylvania county, North Carolina. They soon moved to the Blue Ridge are of Georgia and reared their family there. Their children are

Reese J. McClure, the son of John and Lillian McClure, was born 13 Jul 1806 in Pickens District, South Carolina and died in 1875 in Higdon, Fannin County, Georgia. He married Mary Ann Parker, 28 November 1834 in Rabun County, Georgia, their children are

    Mary Ann McClure, the daughter of Reese and Mary Parker McClure, was born 14 September 1834 in Murray County, Georgia and died 29 September 1913 in Higdon, Fannin County, Georgia. She married about 1853 in Gilmer County, Georgia, Leonard Higdon, the son of Leonard and Eva Hoffman Higdon. Their children are*

    John Spencer Higdon, the son of Mary Ann McClure and Leonard Higdon, was born 25 Jun 1865 in Higdon, Fannin County, Georgia and died 27 Jan 1886 in Quinlan, Hunt County, Texas. He and Margaurette Millsaps had one child.
    1. Leonard Newton, b. abt 1885
    John Spencer went to his brother's home in Quinlan, Texas and would often drink out of the creek when he was out working in the field, he became ill with what they thought was Cholera and died in his brother's home, he did not reach his 21st birthday.
